Dance Your Way To Revolution With a Local Historian

The Anarchist Emma Goldman said, “If I can’t dance to it, it’s not my revolution.” Kick up your heels, and join us for a tour of the neighborhood that shaped her freewheeling philosophy. As we wind our way between 14th Street and Houston Street, we’ll uncover the area’s rebellious past. Along the way, we’ll meet the Rebel Girl and the Priestess of Anarchy, learn about the saloon known as the “most famous radical center in New York,” and discover which nightclub has been “an idyllic place of controversy and entertainment” for over a century.

I'm a professional historian and passionate nerd. I founded Archive on Parade, a historical tour and event company, to take history out of the archives and into the streets. As a Native New Yorker, I know there are stories around every corner. I've worked with places including the 92nd Street Y, The New York Public Library, the St. Regis Hotel, Fraunces Tavern and the Brooklyn Brainery to offer exciting tours, lectures and events all over town.

Fantastic walking tour with Lucie. She is incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the East Village and the radicals who organised there, and shared some great stories that really brought the history to life. She is a qualified historian and it shows - she answered my questions with great detail and gave me a real insight into the history of this unique place. Highly recommend this tour to learn about the underground history of the East Village!

Lucie was fantastic! Her knowledge of the East Village is phenomenal and we really enjoyed our time with her. It felt like walking around the city with a (very impressive!) friend, with so much scope for conversations about the subjects the walk covered. I'd recommend the tour without hesitation to anyone, irrespective of their background in New York's radical history. Thank you Lucie!

Lucie is a fun and engaging historian with a wealth of knowledge about the many remarkable and sometimes little known figures in the East Village’s earlier history. As we walked and stopped at almost a dozen spots, Lucie shared interesting, surprising stories about life in the late 19th century and the ideals of the many activists who lived there. Ninety minutes of walking, talking and learning about one of New York’s most vibrant neighborhoods was a great way to enjoy the late morning before lunch. Thank you, Lucie!

Sehr schöne Tour durch das East Village. Ich wusste vorher wenig bis nichts von "Klein Deutschland" und der Geschichte der Anarchisten. Habe auf unterhaltsame Weise viel gelernt. Lucie hat das sehr gut gemacht.
