By making a reservation it is assumed that you have read the information provided on the AirBnB listing and that you agree to read and ensure understand the instructions/advice provided in the house including Information for Guests, Bushfire Survival Plan and Instructions for the Use of Appliances and as otherwise directed by signs and notices in the house and around the property. Failure to follow instructions as directed, especially the switching off of the gas cylinder, locking of windows, doors and closure of roller shutters when temporarily leaving the property particularly on total fire ban days or on departure may result in you being responsible for loss or damage caused by theft or bushfire. You must SWITCH OFF the electric blankets as soon as the bed has warmed and as advised on the EB controller – failure to do may cause a fire placing your safety at risk.
As the water supply is rainwater, restrictions to the use of the bath may apply in the summer season if an El Niño event (low rainfall) is impacting on the winter and spring rainfall.
Appleton House is located in bushland in the Adelaide Hills (Mt Lofty Ranges region) which is a bushfire prone area. Visitors to our region should be alert to the possibility of bushfires, particularly during the summer months and on days with high temperatures, high wind, and low humidity.
For the safety of guests, conditions apply to the use of the property on total fire ban days. Based on Government of South Australia's Country Fire Service (CFS) bushfire danger advice, we suggest visitors find entertainment and leisure in bushfire safer places such as Stirling or the City of Adelaide, on total fire ban days rated as Severe or Extreme, returning in the evening only if it is safe to do so.
If guests arrive for their stay on a Severe or Extreme rated day we recommend guests delay check-in until the evening and then only if it is safe to do so.
Owing to the safety risk, on a day of Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating, the property will NOT be available for ANY access including over-night accommodation for the night of that Catastrophic Fire Danger Rated Day, even if guests have a confirmed booking for the night.
In this circumstance, alternative accommodation must be found. The hosts will fully refund any accommodation payments received from guests for that night’s booking.
If a Catastrophic rated day occurs during the guests’ stay, the CFS recommends people leave bushfire-prone areas the night before OR as early as possible on a day of Catastrophic fire danger Rating.
The hosts will provide guests with information about alternative accommodation options in the city of Adelaide which is a bushfire safer place.
If arriving in Adelaide from interstate or overseas between November-May guests are advised to check the CFS website for the bushfire danger rating applying to your day of arrival. The Alert SA app also provides you with up to date information on bushfire danger alerts or events as will the local AM ABC radio.
It is your responsibility to know your risk and what you need to do to stay safe in the event of a bushfire.
Check-in from 14:00 and checkout by 10:00. Check-in and check-out times can be flexible subject to bookings and maintenance requirements.
For liability reasons, only those individuals who are registered AirBnB travellers may stay overnight at the premises.
At exit, the house should be left tidy. All furniture should be returned to the location it was found on arrival. The kitchen should be clean particularly the stove, oven and grill, if used. Crockery and pans should be washed and put away.
All lights (external as well as internal) and the ceiling fans in the bathroom and living room should be switched off. Between November and May the gas should be turned off at the cylinder. Place waste in external bins where indicated. Reporting of damage/breakages including carpet stains would be greatly appreciated. Wine and other spills should be attended to immediately. Products and instructions for wine stain treatment are provided in the pantry.
Please browse through the Information for Guests folder on arrival and read information about the use of appliances such as the wood stove and dishwasher.
For your safety, also familiarise yourself with the Bushfire Survival Plan for Guests even during non-bushfire danger seasons.
You are welcome to use the pantry products. We'd appreciate a contribution to the stock, such as replacing items which have nearly run out, to ensure that the range of essential items are available for guests who follow.
The property is located in bushland with steep inclines and dry stone walls. The occasional snake, although timid, is around in summer. Accordingly the property could be hazardous to children. The house contains natural untreated wooden furniture and is carpeted throughout. Children will need to be supervised at all times.
Conditions apply when staying during the bushfire danger season. Please familiarise yourself with these details on this site under Other Things to Note before making your bookings.
At departure please follow the instructions posted on the side table near the front door and on the storeroom door. Close all ROLLER SHUTTERS including the manually operated one in the bathroom. Also lock the storeroom door, return the key to the key safe and secure the chain across the driveway entrance.
