Roomy, three bedroom, 2 bath hillside home with two large indoor seating areas and a deck with retractable awning and ocean views. Like you, we've come to Maui to escape the stresses and urgency of city life and we keep an easy, affable home full of aloha. Socialize, isolate, hibernate or celebrate, whatever you want. We have good knowledge of the island and will happily direct you to our favorite beaches, restaurants, activities and cool places.

We have DirecTV in the living room with regional sports, but will you really watch TV while you are on Maui?!?!?! There are ceiling fans in every room and air conditioning in the seating areas.

We'll listen our ears off, play deaf and dumb or just nod in passing. Your choice. Come and go as you wish. We'll leave the porch light on. We may insist on teaching you a song on the ukulele or showing you the best way to open a pineapple.

Quiet cul-de-sac with four large, gated homes and us. Behind us are thousands of acres of open range land sloping up to the mountain. It's sort of palm-treed, lush Hawaii out the front door, West Texas out the back.

Usually easy to get an Uber or Lyft. Local buses serve almost the entire island, however, the closest bus stop is one mile down the hill and one mile back up the hill to our house! In nearby Kihei are several local inexpensive car rental companies that beat the hell out of Hertz and Avis prices for pretty good cars. Many folks rent fun mopeds or motor scooters from multiple dealers in Kihei. You can rent bicycles, surfboards, stand-up paddle boards, scuba, and snorkeling gear, as well as take surfing lessons and dive trips. We have a super recommendation for a fishing boat and whale watching.

Remember that during December, January, February, and March the WHALES are right off the beach with their calves. Bring binoculars!!
We provide you with beach chairs, beach towels, a cooler, boogie boards, and an umbrella. You need only bring flip flops, shorts, bathing suits, a shirt or two, and your toiletries plus hiking gear if you hike. Residents here break out their polar jackets when the temperature PLUNGES to 68ºF! There are lots of good restaurants, both moderately priced and expensive, near us. Additionally, there are plentiful food trucks and Cheap Eats.

PLEASE do not drive out to Hana on the day you check in. “Oh, it’s only 52 miles. We can make it to Hana in about an hour.” Well, not unless you’re flying… literally. Aptly dubbed “The Divorce Highway”, the Road to Hana has an exhausting, and many times harrowing, 617 hairpin curves and 59 unforgiving one-lane bridges, not to mention an incredible number of blind spots along the way. And, since the speed limit is 25 mph or less the entire way, that puts the drive time (with no stops) averaging about 2.5 hours — and that’s without encountering any traffic or other diversions.
Oh, and there are more obstacles to making it there “on time”, like being mesmerized by all of the incredibly beautiful waterfalls and local Hawaiian culinary delights at the roadside stands. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to be delayed by traffic due to accidents, construction, landslides or other issues. After all, the Hana Highway is about a century old so it’s under a constant state of repair. IF you decide to come back on the "backside" road: "The back side of the road to Hana is an unauthorized section of road, which is rough, narrow, prone to mudslides, and unpaved in sections.

Please advise us in advance of your arrival time:

1. Flight arrival time if by air.
2. A two hour "window of time" when you plan to check in if you are already on island.

My wife Starr and I love the beach, the gorgeous ocean and the Maui lifestyle. We volunteer at the Haku Baldwin Therapeutic Riding Program in Makawao weekly. We have a Lakeland Terrier - Banjo and a Yorkshire Terrier - Josie. The photo shows us at Dog Days of August at a SF Giants game in San Francisco. I play the ukulele and Starr knits (whatever that is). We are avid fans of the Giants, Warriors, and Cowboys. We moved to Maui in October 2015 from the San Francisco Bay area after many years of longing to do so. We are semi-retired and both work part-time. In California, we always had visiting international grad students or post-docs at Stanford University living with us. This is how we discovered how wonderful it is to meet new people from everywhere. Each of the students has become a fast friend!
