The church had been literally steam cleaned four days previous. Marie said it was dirty. I asked for pictures. They sent three, one of a wash basin that hadn't been wiped down properly and 2 pictures of the bathroom floor which showed very little. I asked for more. I approached the previous guests who said they had left it in perfect condition. This does happen from time to time. I offered a refund for the evidence I received. They refused. They obviously wanted more. Marie then left the church - principally kitchen and bathroom - in a mess. Fortunately the next guests were very understanding. They thought Marie must have left in a hurry and forgotten to clean up properly. They said it took ten minutes to put it right. I offered them a refund too. They said they wouldn't dream of it.
All these guests were made aware of their cleaning responsibilities. This happens now and then. I would advise caution to hosts, especially at times when you cannot offer a cleaning service between guests. Perhaps advise them to go elsewhere, or book a b&b or hotel. A huge thanks to the lovely guests who followed Marie. They were fantastically understanding.
I would also advise Marie to go to hotels or more traditional hostelries where you are charged for these services rather than staying in people's homes via Airbnb. All the best in future!
