I'm honestly saddened by Steve's review.
I heard absolutely nothing from him until he messaged me a few moments before the review period had expired, asking for a refund.
I'll address his points specifically, though:
1) Springfield is a gorgeous, up and coming historic neighborhood in central Jacksonville. It is an urban neighborhood with a diverse mix of folks whom I love! I have fantastic neighbors whom I wouldn't trade for the world and my house is surrounded by parks, restaurants (on Main St which is undergoing a transformation as I speak - check out Frank Cotten's BBQ which is opening up next month a few blocks away!!!), and breweries. While there is crime all over Jacksonville (even in the nicest neighborhoods, like any big city), I have lived in this house for over 3 years myself and had tenants/guests in it for ~10 years and not one of them has had a security-related issue (including Steve).
2) The house is historic and the exterior was completely renovated ~12 years ago. If your'e looking for a cookie-cutter/brand new home this isn't a good fit for you! I am going to repaint the exterior at some point this upcoming year so the fresh coat of paint should make it look even more inviting than I believe it already is (pictures on profile are from summer 2018 so what you see is what you get)!
3) Steve never mentioned any of the above issues during his stay - hair in bed sheets, exposed nail, or bugs. I'll address each of these individually:
a) Hair in bed sheets - this is possible although my cleaners are fantastic and if 1 or 2 stray hairs ended up in the sheets and Steve would have let me know about this during his stay, I would have happily fixed this on the spot. For future guests, this is why immediate communication of any concerns is critical - so that I can fix any issues that crop up immediately.
b) Exposed nail - I have no idea what Steve is referring to here; I stay at this listing frequently and am in the house all the time to check it over prior to guests' stays. I am awaiting evidence of this and going to head to the house myself on Thursday (when my next guest checks out) to comb the master bedroom for said nail and if/when I find it nail it down promptly!
c) Unfortunately Florida is the buggiest state in the nation twice over (Louisiana is 2nd with about half as many) so the occasional bug in the summer months in any house in the state is incredibly difficult to prevent. I use Brandon Pest Control, an outstanding company, to treat this house and all of my listings on a monthly basis. I (nor any host in Florida) can guarantee that a guest will see absolutely no indoor bugs, especially during the summer months/rainy season, but I do my absolute best to prevent this from happening.
In short, I stand by my other guests' 5 star reviews both for this house (dozens) and all of my other listings (hundreds). I'm saddened by Steve's experience and hope that he improves his guest-host communication during future stays.
