This is a truly spectacular and spacious family home in one of the most enchanting rural villages in the beautiful Natural Park of the Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche.

Mekân
Calle Barranca
(Tourism licence VTAR/HU/00494)
is a three bedroom house which was built on the site of an old terraced typical village home in one of the little cobbled streets leading away from the central main square of the village. It appears small on the outside and then opens up into a spacious living area with an interior atrium designed to allow in light and at the same time keep the property cool. From the street entrance you walk in to the large hall with steps leading up to the first floor and the kitchen off to one side. A passageway leads you down a couple of steps past the atrium to the huge open living space with seating area and separate dining area.

Large double doors lead from this room to the large terraced area outside with seating and shade provided. The bank of the terrace is planted with a mixture of native plants such as rosemary and lavender, succulents including aloe vera and the jade plant, iris, rose , wisteria and the pretty dark pink bougainvillea.
Below the terrace is a large grassy area under the olive trees and a steep path which leads down to the lower lane encircling the village on this side.

The large master bedroom has access to the balcony from which there are stunning uninterrupted views across the valley below and further beyond to the distant mountains.
The two smaller bedrooms are on the village side of the house and look out over the little cobbled lane and the pantiled rooftops of our neighbours houses. One is a double with a Queen sized bed, the other has twin beds provided.

Summers are very hot in the sierra and the house construction allows the rooms to remain cool when required. For the winter months all bedrooms have individual radiators and there is a large woodburning stove in the main living area which allows warm air to circulate in the main bedroom on cooler nights. There are two large bathrooms one of which is attached to the main bedroom and a third toilet downstairs in the utility area with a washing machine and separate basin.

The kitchen area is to the front of the house on the right as you enter the house and has all the essentials including fridge and freezer, gas hob and electric oven, toaster etc. There is no mains supply of gas in the village so bottles are provided.
There is no WIFI at present in the house but you can get connected in the village square.

Misafir erişimi
All areas of the house and garden are accessible apart from the atrium which we use for storage of essentials and is locked. There is also a locked storage cupboard in the twin bedroom.

Dikkat edilecek diğer şeyler
Cortelazor la Real
Listed as a centre of cultural interest its heritage is preserved by strict laws which prevent any new construction which is out of keeping with traditional style. Here is the part of Spain which time really seems to have forgotten in an area of outstanding natural beauty where ancient little villages of whitewashed houses with orange pantiled roofs cling to the rugged wooded hillsides under the brilliant azure blue Andalusian skies.

From the house you can walk in every direction into some of the most wild and remote forests and walk for miles along the deep river gorges and winding paths through the surrounding landscape. In the village itself there are all the amenities you will need such as local shops selling everything from coffee to clothes pegs, fresh vegetables , meats and cheeses. There are three bars to choose from and a highly recommended restaurant situated just outside the village which overlooks the sierra. The pharmacy is located just up the road from the house on the right hand side. There is a swimming pool in the village and also two little museums which are well worth a visit.

A short drive (or a longish walk ) from the village there is a natural pool (pictured ) which is recreated every summer by damming the river. It is an easy walk from the parking area and there is a small beach by the shore with a larger outdoor seating and barbecue area. It is a safe and clean place to swim fringed with tall shady trees and the pretty pink oleander flowers typical of southern Spain.

Important village events include:
The Romeria de la Virgen de la coronada. Traditional procession on foot and horseback on the 2nd Sunday of May from the Ermita to the river. Spectacular colourful sight of local women and girls in flamenco dresses and the men in traditional Spanish riding clothes of wide brimmed hats and long pin-striped trousers .

Annual painting competition in August - held in the village. This event is sponsored by the town council and is open to artists of all ages with a brush and an easel. Judging takes place in the village square.

The Natural Park forms part of a larger Unesco biosphere 'Dehesas de Sierra Morena' which was established to protect ancient forests and agricultural systems and the area is famous for its woods of sweet chestnut and cork and for the rearing of the little black Iberian pigs which thrive on the acorns of the holm oak and gives the meat its distinctive flavour. The park itself covers a vast area encompassing several villages .
This part of Andalusia is recognised as one of the best places in the world for stargazing due to the lack of light pollution and in the summer months you can see the 'lluvia de estrellas' (- literally 'the rain of stars') in the clear night skies and the majestic outline of the Milky Way.

In the spring the steep hillsides are covered with the soft pink and white heather and bright yellow flowers of gorse, striking pink native rock roses, deep blue irises and tall spires of asphodel . Here in the mountains the air is fresh and sweetly scented with pine trees. Everywhere there are the sturdy cork and holm oak trees , grey green olives, fig and elm. In the grassy lower pastures there are pretty almond tress with their fragrant white and pink blossom and orange and lemon trees already bearing ripe fruits. The autumn months are a special time in the sierra when people love to come and collect chestnuts from the forests and forage for mushrooms.

Locally there are opportunities for all kinds of sports including swimming, walking, cycling, canoeing, canyoning, horse riding, rock climbing.
