You’ve found it; the jewel in Santa Fe’s crown, a stunning pueblo-style home carved into the foothills and filled with artwork. Marrying luxury with beauty, House of Folk Art is one in a million!
When you first enter this magnificent home, you may do a double take, looking for an admission desk. Shelves and surfaces in every room are filled with unique works of artistry and craftsmanship, precious items collected from all over the world and arranged just for your pleasure. Yet House of Folk Art is not a museum where you need tiptoe around -- it’s a relaxed house, designed for comfort and enjoyment of the incredible views as well as the one-of-a-kind furnishings and decor.
Where to look first?! Well, the abundance of windows and glass doors may catch your eye, filling every room with light and bringing the amazing views indoors from all directions. Even in winter, House of Folk Art is an indoor-outdoor palace, with multiple levels of patios (covered and uncovered) and gorgeous gardens. The city lights lie below it like ten thousand shooting stars, and the mountains frame the vista in majesty. There is simply no better location in Santa Fe!
The living room is designed and furnished for a crowd, yet retains a feeling of intimacy. Featuring a wood-burning stove, it offers plenty of comfy couches and chairs, including one sofa that opens into a queen-sized bed. A flat-panel TV equipped with Direct TV satellite service will keep your group entertained long into the night . . . or you could gather around the kitchen table for a few rounds of cards. Banked by a curved window seat overlooking spectacular vistas, this table is another choice spot at House of Folk Art, a great place to begin the day when you are still just half awake and waiting for the coffee to brew!
The open-plan design of the kitchen and living area means that your group can stay together even when some people are busy in the kitchen, others playing at the table, and still others flopped down in the living room. The galley-style kitchen features top-notch stainless-steel appliances, and its cupboards are fully stocked with dishes, flatware, pots, pans, and all the utensils and tools needed to prepare just about anything you like. Pop some groceries in the fridge, whip up a blender full of something frothy, and you are good to go!
You won’t want to leave the fun, but when everyone is yawning, it's time to retire to the bedrooms (except for those lucky two who get the sleeper sofa, with its floor-to-ceiling spectacle of the sunrise!). As soon as you do, you'll wonder why you waited so long. Whether you are in the master or the guest room, you'll find the accommodations quiet, serene, and luxe.
House of Folk Art is designed with a bedroom on each end of the house, so you can truly get away from the rest of your party at bedtime. For couples and friends, the privacy is invaluable.
The master suite is enormous, with a king-size bed from which you can watch the light change on the mountains and foothills. Open beams, a ceiling fan, a private flat-screen TV, comfy reading chairs, a lovely desk -- all of these and more fill this huge room. What about the double glass doors leading out to the patio from the master suite? And the palatial en-suite bath, with a huge tub, separate shower, his-and-her vanities, and divided powder room?
The second bedroom can't equal the master in size (but then, what could?!), but it's running neck-and-neck for charm. The queen bed overlooks floor-to- ceiling windows on two walls, with patio access and a private wall-mounted TV. The bathroom is adorable, featuring a claw foot tub, separate shower, free-standing sink, and divided powder room/commode area.
And all of this is just the interior of the House of Folk Art. Outdoors, there are several different levels of patios, including a covered area with a gas grill and big table; an open area with another table, rocker, and chaise lounge, and a wood-burning fireplace; and a terrace garden with a hot tub and million-dollar views of the city below. This property is cut into the side of the hill, so it goes up and down as well as out, giving you endless new areas to explore.
House of Folk Art is the stuff best vacations ever are made of. Treat yourself to an unforgettably wonderful visit to a unique home in beautiful Santa Fe!
