Perfect for a romantic get away, an idyllic spot for those looking for a quiet escape. Stay in a renovated Blacksmith's cottage, set in 2.5 acres of wild meadows, nestled in the heart of The Preselis in Pembrokeshire’s National Park. Located halfway between the coastal town of Cardigan and the popular market town of Narberth. Spend a day exploring the hills, walking or cycling. Visit the beautiful coastal beaches or enjoy a spot of wildlife photography and capture a picture of our barn owls.

* Chilli Penguin log burner with cooking oven being installed 7th October *

Explore The Preselis directly from The Smithy, access the gated Drovers lane onto the moor and find yourself at the foothills of the spectacular amphitheatre of Mynydd Preseli.

Accommodation includes a king size bed in the main bedroom, relax in the peace and quiet with luxurious 500 thread count Egyptian cotton bedding. The bathroom is walk through en-suite with shower. Luxury Egyptian Cotton Jumbo Bath Sheet and hand towels supplied.

Up in the Crogloft are 2 single bed mattresses (accessed by steep, narrow wooden stairs so not suitable for small children). This area is height restricted due to the beams (150-175cm), it does have a stairgate at the top but it's use should be supervised. A travel cot is available at no extra charge, please let us know in advance of this is required.

Wi-fi is available although can be temperamental due to our rural location and a TV with freesat.

A cosy and functional kitchenette is equipped with a sink, Nespresso Vertuo Plus coffee maker, cafetière, small fridge (a large fridge is available in the agri shed, if required please let us know), toaster, kettle, counter-top oven with 2 electric hobs (saucepan/ casserole dish/ frying pan), microwave and crockpot - to enjoy a warming stew after a day hiking the hills!

There are a backgammon/ draughts and chess set/ scrabble/ jenga, playing cards, a selection of maps of the local area and books in the bookshelf for unwinding.

A gas barbecue (with gas cylinder supplied) is available for the sole use of guests. Sit back and relax and enjoy the private patio to the rear of The Smithy featuring uninterrupted views across neighbouring farm fields. A fire pit is available for use and logs can be purchased from us.

Should it be required, access to the main house can be arranged for use of the washing machine, tumble dryer or iron. A wall hung brabantia and clothes airer are available for guest use. It is not recommended to hang towels on the fence when sheep are in the field!

Pembrokeshire boasts some of the best dark sky opportunities for star gazing, with The National Park enjoying minimal light pollution. Located in a peaceful countryside setting The Smithy is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts or those looking for an idyllic writers/artists retreat. There is plenty of wildlife about, the area was recently featured on “Iolo’s Pembrokeshire”. In addition to the ponies on the moor there are rabbits, weasels and many different wild birds. For the keen photographers it is possible to take pictures of the barn owls from the patio!

Guests are free to use the fields and wild flower meadows at the property, please supervise young children as there are several ponds inside and outside of the fenced garden.

Cycle route 47 passes through the moor to the rear of the cottage, which can be accessed by the drovers lane. There are many walks nearby to explore the amphitheatre of hills that stretch from the back gate. To the West is Foel Cwmcerwyn, the highest point of The Preseli hills and of Pembrokeshire at 536m with 360 degree breathtaking views. This is up from Pantmaenog forest with 12km of walking, mountain biking tracks and bridleways, rosebush quarry - which is great for a wild swim and a pint in the infamous Tafarn Sinc pub.

Directly behind The Smithy are Carn Sian and Care Bica which feature Beddarthur, a neolithic stone circle (Arthur' grave). To the East is Carn Menyn a grouping of craggy tors where it is thought the bluestones forming the inner circle of Stonehenge were mined. Gors Fawr, a Bronze Age stone circle is on the moor to the South West beyond a pair of standing stones.

The rugged North Pembrokeshire Coast is great for walking and watersports such as stand up paddle boarding and kayaking or bodyboarding if the surf's up! Our favourite beaches are Newport Sands (8.5 mils, 30 minutes drive) with sweeping sand dunes, an estuary and rock pools to explore. Poppit sands (11 miles, 30 minutes drive) along from St Dogmaels and Mwnt beach in Ceredigionshire (14 miles, 40 minutes drive), a beautiful hidden cove with steps down to a golden sandy beach. Climb the hill past the 14th century church Eglwys y Grog for the panoramic views over Cardigan bay and enjoy the sunset, if you're lucky its one of the best places to spot dolphins!

Cenarth falls (11 miles, 25 minutes drive) features a series of small waterfalls with a salmon leap and swimmable pools on the river Teifi. Llys-y-Frân reservoir (7 miles, 18 minutes drive, £3 to park all day) activity centre offers mountain biking with over 14km of off-road trails, a pump-track and skills area, water activities - fishing, stand up paddle boarding and pedal boarding. You may even spot an otter or two. A trip to Skomer island is recommended to see the puffins, seals and other wildlife. St David's is the UK's smallest city and features a beautiful 12th century cathedral as well as one of the tastiest ice cream parlours!

Visit Wild Lakes Wales for wake boarding, the aqua park or bouldering, ringo rides or even an open water swim. You can also swim in Rosebush quarry.

Visit one of the local farm shops (Siop Carla 15 mins drive), micro breweries such as Bluestone or Pant Mawr to try some farmhouse cheese. Please ask us for other places to visit to make your stay in Pembrokeshire enjoyable and memorable.

Well behaved dogs (1 per booking) are welcomed if kept on a lead at all times. We are surrounded by livestock in neighbouring fields. You’re welcome to exercise your dog on the fields but would ask guests are responsible for their pets as we have children. Please don’t leave your dogs unattended in The Smithy at any time and ensure they don’t go on the furniture. I
