We are a little disappointed that Kaycie gave a bad review. We have had it rented almost full time and have not received any negative responsive. All of the pictures we posted have been taken in the last year and are exactly as the house is. I am not sure what Kaycie's expectations were. Ojochal and the south Pacific coast is relatively undeveloped area. ALL the roads in Ojochal, other then the main highway, are gravel roads. Even if you rent a multi million dollar home it will be on a gravel road.
It is a jungle area where people come to enjoy nature and unspoiled beaches. It is an area where the ocean caresses the mountains and the jungles kiss the ocean. It is not Hawaii with giant hotels and manicured gardens. I am not sure what she means by "overgrown." Within a few steps of our front door we have Orchids and an abundance of colorful flowers. You can sit in our Palapa and watch hundreds of humming birds, butterflies parrots and even Toucans. Our house is on the edge of a jungle. Jungles can described as "overgrown" or naturally beautiful.
I am sorry that Kaycie felt unsafe. Our home is located less then a half mile from the school and young kids walk up and down our road unescorted every day. Within a mile there are two grocery stores, several restaurants including Exotica, which is one of the best restaurants in Costa Rica. There are some Tico houses near our house. "Ticos" are locals and are very friendly. All of the doors and windows have decorative bars on the doors and windows that lock. We have spent many months at the house and have never felt threatened. I guess if someone feels unsafe in a strange place then they do. Don't know what else to say about that.
The washing machine works and our property manager uses it uses it when she cleans the house. Now the bugs, as I said we have spent many months in our house there and have seen a roach once or twice a week. It is not infested with bugs. But it is a jungle. There are bugs in the jungle.
I would also like to add that our house is one of the cheapest homes to rent. It is not a 4 star Hilton hotel with manicured gardens. If anyone wants a first class home then you should not look for low cost. We could recomend many very nice places in Ojochal but you would pay more like $200 a night or more instead of $70.
Our house is a very unique fairy tale home located in a natural paradise and only a few miles from many beautiful unspoiled beaches. It is a great place to unwind and relax and enjoy nature. We don't claim that it is a 4 star resort.
