You have never heard of Caswell Beach? You are not alone, because it is one of the East Coast's best kept secrets! Located on the eastern tip of Oak Island, the wide, uncrowded beach has stunning views of Bald Head Island to the east and spectacular sunsets to the west.
Located one mile from historic Fort Caswell and the Oak Island Lighthouse, the Even Keel is across the road from easy boardwalk access to the ocean. Just step into the Great Room of this newly re-decorated cottage and you will be drawn to the views accessed by wall-to-wall glass sliding doors. Open these doors onto the full-length screened porch, cooled by ceiling fans, and settle into the rockers to view the birds and boats plying the Cape Fear River, Southport, and the Intracoastal Waterway. Dine on the porch or adjoining large indoor table seating 6-8. Cook in a kitchen equipped with gourmet appliances. Relax in the colorful and comfy seating of the living room area with access to cable TV, CD, VCR, DVD, and Wi-Fi.
Three carpeted bedrooms and a full bath open from the tiled hallway. The master bedroom with private bath has a queen bed and opens on to the full-length front deck with beach views. The second bedroom, with large windows opening to the front deck, is furnished with a queen and a twin bed. A bunk bed and twin bed with a crisp and cozy cottage decor make up the third bedroom. Downstairs, guests have access to an outdoor hot & cold shower with changing area, a deck for grilling, and a storage room with beach chairs.
Convenient to the cottage are grocery stores, excellent seafood markets, and a produce stand. A golf course is less than a mile down Caswell Beach Road. Oak Island offers four fishing piers, two public marinas, three boat/canoe ramps, bike paths, and canoe trails. Nearby Southport is charming with beautiful live oaks, a waterfront park, historic homes, a public Arts Center, excellent restaurants, galleries, and quaint shops. Possible day trips include ferry rides to Bald Head Island and the Fort Fisher Aquarium or exploration of historic Wilmington. Calabash with its famous seafood restaurants and Myrtle Beach are just forty minutes to one hour south.
