This is a 400 square foot PRIVATE studio in Fire Island Pines in a freestanding house steps from the beach which includes a bedroom, bath and kitchenette and includes a large deck with a gas grille overlooking the garden.
What makes this apartment unique is its privacy compared with what others here on Fire Island Pines offer. Many of the spaces are in share houses. Some even share rooms etc. This apartment has its own entrance and you share it with no one, though your hosts, John and Ellen, have their unit upstairs. We do share the laundry room with our guests.
Fire Island Pines is a very unique community. The last survey found that 85% of the homeowners identified as gay or lesbian. Your hosts happen to be in the happily accepted hetero minority. It's a lovely beach and there is some stunning architecture. We are located about 250 yards away from the ferry dock where the business community is located. The Blue Whale has been hosting early evening 'tea' dances for decades as well as an upscale restaurant. The Pines Bistro is another fine restaurant next to the ever popular Sip and Twirl night club which sits next to the famous Pavilion dance club which stays open till the wee hours. There's also a pizza place and canteen for simpler fare.
Whyte Hall is a theater that has various entertainment throughout the season.
And there is a well stocked grocery store, the Pines Pantry (they make a nice sandwich too) and the Pines Liquor. None of this is cheap by mainland standards as you might expect from a beach resort area.
About a mile west of FIP is our sister community, Cherry Grove which has a very boisterous downtown with lots of drag queens and bars and restaurants. If you don't feel like walking you can take a water taxi there.
The main feature is the beach which is four houses away. The unit is pretty bare bones. We do not have wifi or TV. You get a full size bed, clean sheets and towels (beach towels too) and a quiet private space. There is enough cookware and cutlery to make a nice meal. The unit is not legally permitted to have an oven though there is a stove-top, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, and a gas grille outside on the large deck with the table and furniture you see. We share a laundry room with washer and dryer.
We are live and let live kind of hosts. We are happy to answer questions to help you get settled but otherwise we'll leave you alone to enjoy your time here. Over the course of your stay you may find we are not upstairs. We do have point person on island for any problems you may have that we can't solve over the phone.
We request you leave the unit as you found it. Just put your sheets and towels on the floor and if we are not there when you depart, leave the key on the kitchen counter and lock the door.

We cannot host pets.
Check in is 2 PM. Check out is 11 AM. When we don't have guests right next to each other I can be a little flexible on these times. Mostly just the leave the place the same as you found it. Recyclables are separate from the trash. There is an ordinance that folks make no noise that can be heard across the property line. Which is a little ludicrous since while houses aren't right next to each other they certainly are close enough that some one calling their children could be easily heard. Mostly just keeping it quiet after 10PM and not making lots of noise first thing in the morning.
I think the biggest rule I have is for everyone to know where the fire extinguisher is. All the houses are wood and fire is a big threat to the whole community.
Also please remember to close the gate. While the deer can be fun to look at, they can destroy the garden in moments!
