Please join us and stay in my beautiful country cottage, a 200 year old barn which has been converted into a unique living space.
My home is situated in a 'picture postcard' village only 15 mins drive from Peterborough.
Elton is a picturesque village, which is to be found some seven miles to the west of Peterborough. The village is quiet and peaceful, it boasts an Elizabethan Stateley home, Elton Hall, two public houses, a church, chapel and local shop/ Post Office.
I'm offering you the opportunity to stay in my home, a beautiful country cottage, a 200 year old barn which has been converted into a unique living space.
As this is my private home I do like to know a little about the people who wish to stay before accepting any booking. It helps to fill out your profile and include a photo; a picture saves a 1000 words! Airbnb is built on relationships, so please tell me a little about yourself, the things you like, what it’s like to have you as a guest and why you are visiting the area.
Our village is a quiet rural 'picture postcard' location with honey stone individual built properties but only a 15 minute drive from Peterborough or 10 minutes from Oundle/ Stamford. Excellent for visiting friends or family in the area or just discovering this hidden gem area, in the English shires.
To get an impression of the village, take a look at the video, made by a couple of Dutch Couchsurfers who stayed for a week in 2012. Do a search on you tube for 65rXUW2Wowg
Elton, a hidden gem in middle England!
Snoopy and I have small roles in it, see if you can spot us!
My guest room (double bed and adjacent toilet/shower room) best for one person or couples travelling together. There is also a separate futon bed in the 2nd floor studio, or 2 sofa-beds in my lounge if additional party members staying.
Guests can expect a warm and sincere welcome, we enjoy meeting, and greeting people to our home and will do our best to make sure their stay is enjoyable. A light breakfast is included in the room rate (tea & coffee also available at anytime, on a help-your-self basis). I have a "fair" knowledge of the area and its history and will be only too pleased to offer any information or help. Please discuss any special requirements once booking confirmed.
The village is lucky enough to have 2 pubs and a Loch Fyne seafood restaurant, all these serving excellent food and within walking distance from my home. For night life or a plethora of ethnic and English eating houses, Peterborough is only a 15 minute drive away.
I live alone with my dog Snoopy - a very friendly German shorthaired pointer - and welcome people to share my world and the surrounding area. If you are travelling with a dog then it is welcome, please bring own bedding, it can sleep in your room [not on bed!] or in kitchen. Snoopy is good with other dogs, unfortunately he sees cats, rabbits or hamsters as food so not a good idea to visit us with any of those unless you wish to contribute towards his food supply! ;)
I have had many guests over the last 7 years through other this and other hospitality networks, all of whom have loved the experience. I also have travelled and used AirBnB myself so understand the needs of visitors.
I love meeting new people and am happy to give any advice on exploring the local area or share my travelling experiences.
Guests have joint use of my home, welcome to join me in the lounge to chat over a glass of wine, cup of tea or watch TV. If you wish to prepare your own food I'm happy to work around your schedules. Free access to tea and coffee at all time, and maybe some cake if I've made some!
In summer I have a 2nd floor outdoor balcony which guests are welcome to enjoy with a drink and maybe a book?
Off road car parking in a safe and relatively crime free area.
I'm happy to share stories over a glass of wine or meal here in my home. Join you for a pint in a local pub and give you as much information as you like.
Equally happy to welcome you, hand over some keys - once a certain amount of trust/respect has been gained - and let you come and go as you please.
Your needs and wishes will dictate how this pans out.
Elton is a picturesque village, which is to be found some seven miles to the west of Peterborough. The village is quiet and peaceful, despite the close proximity of the busy A605 The village boasts an Elizabethan Stateley home, Elton Hall, two excellent public houses, two village greens, a few shops, a chapel and All Saints church.
Please let me know your estimated time of arrival (latest check-in 9:30pm) and departure so I can arrange to be home to welcome you. A light breakfast served between 8:30 and 10am by arrangement, though you are welcome to help yourself from the kitchen if you wish to get out earlier.
A car is recommended to reach us as local transport is limited, though there is a daytime bus service between Elton and Peterborough or Oundle.
I tend to go to bed between 11pm and midnight and would prefer guests to be at home before midnight.

Thanks for the super review! It was a pleasure to host you, we spent some good times and the food you bought was wonderful. If it was God that brought you to my door then I'm a believer! I'm sure the friendship will continue and I look forwards to seeing you again sometime soon.
Snoopy says 'woof woof' ;)
We had a short, but very pleasant, stay. Steve was really hospitable and welcoming (as was Snoopy the dog!). We had a very comfortable room in a lovely house in the pretty village of Elton. Our only regret was that, due to our hectic schedule, we didn't have more time to chat and relax at home.
Elton is a great village, with pubs serving good food.
We had a lovely one night stop over on our way to the airport. The property is gorgeous and Steve as a host was very welcoming as was his dog Snoopy. Would definitely recommend
Steve was a great host, and was happy to book us a table at the local pub when we arrived late and hungry. He put out a large spread at breakfast, complete with delicious homemade jams and local honey. Thank you!
Had a lovely 2 nights with Steve. He invited us to his BBQ with his friends and we had a very enjoyable night with the Rowing Coaches from the Peterborough Rowing Club. Thankyou to you all for making us so welcome. Steve has a lovely little place in a perfect part of the Midlands. We really enjoyed our time with him and would highly recommend a stay at his place. Good wine and good conversation makes for a great holiday!
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Steve's place in the
beautiful village of Elton. In our journey this had been a bit of a side trip but became a highlight as a result of Steve being such a great host.
Steve was a perfect host- friendly and relaxed. He even offered me a very welcome glass of wine and took time to have a chat with my 15 yr old son. Beautiful village with good food as well.
We were very happy in his house and recommend staying with Steve

I'm now a retired gentleman of leisure, sometimes wandering the world. I did have a real job once! I've had 3 careers; in Telecommunications, Teaching English (TEFL) and sports development (for British Rowing). Oh and dabbled in massage and hostel management.
Now spend most of my time doing volunteering work as a rowing coach/squad manager, Samaritans volunteer and Chair of my local community civic society.
I'm divorced with a grown up daughter (who is living in France) and live on my own with my dog (Snoopy, a friendly and loveable, but natural born hunter, German shorthaired pointer) in a wonderful English country village 9 miles west of Peterborough. PLEASE NOTE THAT IF I'M TRAVELLING WITH SNOOPY, DON'T INVITE US IF YOU HAVE CATS, HE MIGHT EAT THEM!
I've travelled extensively but only visited about 25% of the worlds countries. So a few more to go, eh? I've done 4 Round-the-World trips, and in the last 3 years stayed with many surfing couch (CS) hosts. Snoopy and I have done some road trips, around the UK, Ireland and France, when we've had the privilege to be warmly welcomed by many CS hosts.
Lived and worked in the UK, New Zealand, Bali, Malta and Istanbul- Turkey. I enjoy meeting and learning from new friends, happy to share my wisdom, experiences and knowledge to help others.
You never stop learning!
