Please join us and stay in my beautiful country cottage, a 200 year old barn which has been converted into a unique living space.
My home is situated in a 'picture postcard' village only 15 mins drive (8 miles west) from Peterborough.
The village is quiet and peaceful, it boasts an Elizabethan Stately home, Elton Hall, two public houses, a church, chapel and local shop/ Post Office.
I'm offering you the opportunity to stay in my home, a beautiful country cottage, a 200 year old barn which has been converted into a unique living space.
As this is my private home I do like to know a little about the people who wish to stay before accepting any booking. It helps to fill out your profile and include a photo; a picture saves a 1000 words! Airbnb is built on relationships, so please tell me a little about yourself, the things you like, what it’s like to have you as a guest and why you are visiting the area.
Our village is a quiet rural 'picture postcard' location with honey stone individual built properties but only a 15 minute drive from Peterborough or 10 minutes from Oundle/ Stamford. Excellent for visiting friends or family in the area or just discovering this hidden gem area, in the English shires.
To get an impression of the village, take a look at the video, made by a couple of Dutch Couchsurfers who stayed for a week in 2012. Do a search on you tube for 65rXUW2Wowg
Elton, a hidden gem in middle England!
Snoopy and I have small roles in it, see if you can spot us!
My guest room (double bed and adjacent toilet/shower room) best for one person or couples travelling together. Own TV in room and for winter nights an electric blanket and or hot-water bottles will keep you cozy!
There is also a separate futon bed in the 2nd floor studio, or 2 sofa-beds in my lounge if additional party members staying.
Guests can expect a warm and sincere welcome, we enjoy meeting, and greeting people to our home and will do our best to make sure their stay is enjoyable. A light breakfast is included in the room rate (tea & coffee also available at anytime, on a help-your-self basis). I have a "fair" knowledge of the area and its history and will be only too pleased to offer any information or help. Please discuss any special requirements once booking confirmed.
The village is lucky enough to have 2 pubs and a Loch Fyne seafood restaurant, all these serving excellent food and within walking distance from my home. For night life or a plethora of ethnic and English eating houses, Peterborough is only a 15 minute drive away.
If you are travelling with a dog then it is welcome, please bring own bedding, it can sleep in your room [not on bed!] or in kitchen.
I have had many guests over the last 7 years through other this and other hospitality networks, all of whom have loved the experience. I also have travelled and used AirBnB myself so understand the needs of visitors.
I love meeting new people and am happy to give any advice on exploring the local area or share my travelling experiences.
Guests have joint use of my home, I often invite guests to join me in the lounge to chat over a glass of wine, cup of tea or watch TV. If you wish to prepare your own food I'm happy to work around your schedules, just ask. Free access to tea and coffee at all time, and maybe some cake if I've made some!
In summer I have a 2nd floor outdoor balcony which guests are welcome to enjoy with a drink and maybe a book?
Off road car parking in a safe and relatively crime free area.
I'm happy to share stories over a glass of wine or meal here in my home. Join you for a pint in a local pub and give you as much information as you like.
Equally happy to welcome you, hand over some keys - once a certain amount of trust/respect has been gained - and let you come and go as you please.
Your needs and wishes will dictate how this pans out.

I have vast experience as a traveller so have many stories to share! Because I've lived in the area nearly all my life, I can help with advice and local knowledge. Happy to chat and welcome guests with a cup of tea or glass of wine as is appropriate. Please ask if there is anything you need to know about the area, very happy to help make your stay enjoyable.
I'm now a retired gentleman of leisure, sometimes wandering the world. I did have a real job once! I've had 3 careers; in Telecommunications, Teaching English (TEFL) and sports development (for British Rowing). Oh and dabbled in massage and hostel management.
Now spend most of my time doing volunteering work as a rowing coach/squad manager, Samaritans volunteer and Chair of my local community civic society.
I'm divorced with a grown up daughter (who is living in France) and live on my own with my dog (Woody, a friendly and loveable, German shorthaired pointer) in a wonderful English country village 9 miles west of Peterborough.
I've travelled extensively but only visited about 25% of the worlds countries. So a few more to go, eh? I've done 5 Round-the-World trips, and in the last 6 years stayed with many surfing couch (CS) hosts. Snoopy and I have done some road trips, around the UK, Ireland, Spain and France, when we've had the privilege to be warmly welcomed by many hosts.
Lived and worked in the UK, New Zealand, Bali, Malta and Istanbul - Turkey. I enjoy meeting and learning from new friends, happy to share my wisdom, experiences and knowledge to help others. When travelling or welcomming guests food is always an important topic, I 'live to eat not eat to live'.
You never stop learning!
