“Entry to the park is free. There is a cafe, children's playground and picnic area, an exhibition in the Visitors Centre and guided walks if you wish to learn more about the biodiversity of the Park. You can also do self guided walks and see some Connemara Ponies and donkeys and cattle here. Diamond Hill will impress you. Its possible to climb to the top and the views from the top on a clear day are absolutely stunning. You will see the Twelve Pins, Partry and Sheffrey mountains and stunning seascapes of northwest Connemara and also Kylemore Abbey. Appropriate footwear and clothing is required if you intend to climb Diamond Hill.”

Pub

“The blue and yellow pub on the corner of Quay Street and Cross Street has been welcoming visitors since 1894. On a dry day, the seats outside are hands down the best people-watching spot in Galway and if the Irish weather is up to it’s usual tricks then the inside of this Galway institution offers an equally pleasing collection of snugs, cubby holes and an open fire place. A jumble of artwork adorns every wall - even the ceiling and locals and visitors alike enjoy the convivial setting. There is live music most Sunday evenings. Location: Quay Street. 6 min walk. ”

“Winner of numerous accolades and awards, including a Michelin Bib Gourmand, Kai has established itself as a firm Galway favourite over the last 7 years. Chef Jess Murphy’s passion for local and seasonal produce shines to the fore on an interesting and ever changing menu. You can walk in off the street for lunch, but booking is advised for dinner. Location: Sea Road. 3 min walk.”

“You cannot leave Connemara without a visit to Kylemore Abbey. The beautiful walled garden is the place to wander around and after visit the Tea House here for a relaxing chat and cuppa. Kylemore Abbey was originally built as a Castle in 1867. You can visit the restored rooms of the Abbey and Gothic Church. The scenery here is wonderful, so dont forget your camera. There is also a very nice restaurant and coffee shop on the grounds - the apple pie and cream is delicious. This is a very popular tourist attraction, so booking in advance is advised”

“25 minutes to Galway City centre, the de facto Cultural Capital of Ireland and gateway to the West of Ireland (Connemara; Cliffs of Moher; Burren; Aran Islands), great street life, pedestrian zones, pubs, restaurants, streetscapes, buskers, Saturday street market and food, shops to while away a very pleasant day. With some of the most creative chefs in the world, Galway is recognised internationally for its cuisine. And then there's the magic of sunset across Galway Bay and the Aran Islands.”

“Located just off the coast of Galway are the Irish-speaking Aran Islands. The largest of the three islands, Inis Mór, has been described as 'one of the world’s top island destinations' by National Geographic. Reachable by ferry from Rossaveal, a 5-minute drive from Tigh Tommy Connolly, the welcoming island is home to the World Heritage site Dún Aonghasa, a Bronze Age fort set on dramatic 300 feet high cliff. ”

Cave
“Ailwee cave is Europe's largest cave and tours run all the time. The bird of prey centre is right beside it and presentations on the birds run in tandem with the tours of the cave. Children (and adults) have a chance to hold the birds and see them in hunting flight. There is also a great cheese shop here. Only 20 minutes drive from the cottage. ”

“The Spanish arch, built in the 16th century, is one of the few places where you can see a piece of the wall that once used to encircle the city. Spanish traders would dock their boats and then pass through the arch to deliver their goods. Just beyond the arch sits Galway City museum. Worth a visit for anyone interested in Galway's history and Irish history in general. Upstairs there's even an interactive marine exhibit for kids. ”
