Palace
“At the end of the seventeenth century Emperor Leopold I commissioned the Baroque architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, who had received his training in Rome, to design an imperial hunting lodge for his son, Crown Prince Joseph, later to become Emperor Joseph I. Replacing the château de plaisance built on this site for the dowager empress Eleonora of Gonzaga in 1642, it was to grow into a palatial imperial residence over the course of the eighteenth century. The park at Schönbrunn Palace was opened to the public around 1779 and since then has provided a popular recreational amenity for the Viennese population as well as being a focus of great cultural and historical interest for international visitors. Extending for 1.2 km from east to west and approximately one kilometre from north to south, it was placed together with the palace on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1996.”

“The Stephansdom Vienna with the famous Pummerin bell is a world wide known cultural possession and one of Vienna landmarks. The local people use also the name Steffel for this impressive cathedral. Pummerin Bell: In 1951 the new Pummerin was casted in St. Florian partly out the material of the old bell which tumbled down at the fire in 1945. It was pulled up in 1957 onto the 68 m high north tower. The biggest and heaviest bell of Austria weighs 21.383 kg. Stephansdom data and facts: To reach the top room of the high tower, which is the 137 m high south tower and also commonly known as Steffl, you need to climb 343 steps. The cathedral itself is 107 m long and 34 m wide. The central aisle is 28 m high and the three choir halls are 22 m high. Visitor Info: The cathedral of Vienna is definitely worth a visit. The entrance to this imposing building is free, but only some areas may be visited without paying an entrance fee. For the main area of the cathedral a guided tour by audio guide is available for around 6,00 Euro. At this tour you will see numerous art historical and architectural highlights like paintings, altars and sculptures. Both towers offer an impressive view over the city center. Of course you need to pay an entrance fee for this experience. The elevator onto the north tower with Pummerin bell costs approx. 6,00 Euro. For the south tower you have to pay only about 5,00 Euro, but you must tackle the 343 steps on foot. Who prefers to step downstairs instead of upstairs, can also visit the catacombs in a guided tour (approx. 6,00 Euro). In the Bischofsgruft you can find the urns of the Habsburger and the tomb monument for emperor Friedrichs II, which is made of red marble. Bus Station
“To get one of the best views over the city, the Kahlenberg is a great choice, especially if you combine it with a small hike. Even though a direct bus connection is available for €2 it is much more rewarding if you take the hour-long walk and watch the view over Vienna unfold a little bit more with every step up. Either way, by bus or on foot, what you get at the top is a great view over the whole city of Vienna. There’s a panorama terrace with a café and a restaurant, but be vary – they tend to be overpriced, and the restaurant is not quite amongst Vienna’s highly recommended choices. Special tip Most of the time it is quite windy, so chances are that after a couple of minutes of enjoying the view, you will want to make your way back down.”

Park
“To call "Augarten" a park would not do him justice. It is a splendurous place shaped by trees, walkways and flowers. The grey unattractive tower is a relict and constant reminder of WWII. It used to be a bunker for the Viennese population and should stand a bombardement. "Augarten" is at the same time the name of the most famous china manufactory, which is known worldwide for its high quality tableware. Special tip Very scenic: Good place for photographs in winter and in summer.”

Island
“The Donauinsel is a small island in the Danube river, which resulted when the river was regulated in the last century. Today it is a paradise for cyclists, joggers, inline skaters as well as locals who just want to hang out and slow down from the hectic city life. Tourists can rent a bike and take a tour on the island, which is great fun with family and friends. As the island is very flat it is very comfortable to ride a bike there. A great event happens every year in the summer holidays. Then the Donauinsel turns into the biggest free-of-charge open air festival of Europe. A must-see in Vienna. Special tip Good to know: Free Wifi on the whole islands. Nearest underground stations: "Donauinsel" (U1), "Neue Donau" (U6)”
