Saturday Morning Market Fougeres

Market day is Saturday and it is not to be missed: fresh oysters, seafood, organic produce, breads, cheeses, honey and cidre, as well as kitchen utensils, clothing and books. Along side the Château, the market is the reason we fell in love with Fougères and we encourage our guests to support the market by shopping here for fresh produce.
Saturday morning market. Grab a bargain at the market, some fantastic bread from the boulangerie or sit outside a cafe and watch the world go by. Fantastic to visit for a Picon Bierre at Cafe de Paris anytime.

Groceries

There are many excellent boulangeries in the town. The most convenient on foot is a 12 minute walk into town, next to the CarreFour City on Place Aristide Briand. There are a bunch of good supermarkets to choose from, but the closest two are: A 12 minute walk is the Carrefour City in town (a lovely walk past the Château) They stock plenty of fresh produce, food, wine and essential items and are open on Sunday mornings. Carrefour City 9 Rue Porte-Roger, Fougères Monday - Saturday7am–10pm Sunday9am–1pm A larger E.Leclerc Supermarket is on the edge of town. There is an odd second hand shop just before the supermarket car park, often worth a browse, especially good for records and bric-a-brac. Château de Fougères

A 12th-century military fortress on an outcrop, with historical tours and interactive kids activities - a visit to the Fougères Château is a must. Gain insight into the Middle Ages with the interactive historical tour of Fougères Castle. The castle also plays host to several festivals and events through the year – check with the tourist office, we have enjoyed some amazing evenings in the château. In the forecourt there are a few cafés. It’s a lovely place to sit in the afternoon/evening. An alternative is to take a picnic and sit on the grass near the ramparts further up the hill where there is a lovely view of the Château. chateau-fougeres.com+33 2 99 99 79 59 June – September Open everyday 10am – 7pm *Closed 22nd and 23rd June 2019 May Open Tuesday – Sunday 10am – 7pm *Closed on Mondays October – April: Open Tuesday – Sunday 10am–12:30pm2–5:30pm *Closed on Mondays

Aquatic Centre

Piscine L'Aquatis is a fantastic public pool, entry fee for a family of 5 is €15.10. The complex itself is composed of a number of indoor and outdoor pools, immaculately clean and fully life guarded. The indoor pools are heated and cater for all ages with a junior fun pool, a couple of jacuzzi-style areas, a lazy river and two flumes. There is also a diving pool with spring-board and viewing windows to watch the action. We think is it a great family afternoon out in any weather.
