Restaurant Recommendations 2024

Please call restaurants and activities to confirm availability (things sometimes change frequently post pandemic) I highly recommend reservations to any restaurant or call ahead seating on the weekend! Some restaurants, like Tommy's Clam Shack are SEASONAL. All my recommendations are my honest opinion: I do not receive any kickbacks or special consideration for my reviews contain herein. I ordered the recommendations my proximity to the inn. So restaurants are listed in Warwick, East Greenwich, Providence, and Newport
Dave’s is Rhode Island’s Largest Independent grocery store and has an excellent selection of produce, prepared food and Deli Items. If you are interested in enjoying a picnic on your deck. I suggest a quick trip to Dave’s (located 5 minutes by car). The first isle on the right has international cheeses, olives, and selections of cold cuts.

Open Memorial Day through Columbus Day Located about a mile and a half from 3 Royal. This fried seafood clam shack is GREAT. (taken directly from the seafood market adjacent to it), especially the fish and chips, clam chowder, lobster rolls, fried shrimp and scallops.! It is a local favorite. The seafood is much better than Iggy's (fresher and bigger portions) but it doesn't have the stunning ocean view. Peak hours you may have to wait upwards of 30 minutes to get your seafood. They only have outdoor seating, but in the summer there is usually a DJ spinning tunes while you wait.

Open Wednesday through Sunday Very close to 3 Royal Waterfront Suites, less than two miles. Really love that it is a Bring your own Beverage (alcohol) restaurant. Good Italian food. Close to 3 Royal and very reasonable 2 dollar “uncorking” fee. I enjoyed the sirloin, the salmon and steak and the scallops over lemon risotto were good, but not enough scallops.” Good choice for take-out. It’s a small restaurant and can get a little noisy weekend evenings.

For a quick fix in the Thai department, Thai Excursion is great. Located about 5 minutes away, it is a good option for take-out. Our favorite dishes are T’s wings, shrimp excursion, excursion fried rice, and yellow curry chicken (it’s a little spicy).

On a sunny day, especially in the spring and fall before the summer tourist arrive, it is really wonderful to stop at Iggy’s and get clamcakes, fried shrimp dinner, or lobster rolls along with their local soda. Before the high season, there are parking spaces facing the water and it is great to sit in your vehicle and watch the ships pass.

The BEST CLOSEST SEAFOOD restaurant to 3 Royal Waterfront Suites. Undoubtedly, the freshest, tastiest seafood restaurant with forty-five minutes. It is a favorite with the locals. But is very small (around eight tables and a bar), so call ahead ask for wait times. Please feel free to tell them I sent you because they sometimes squeeze in guests as a favor to me. I am one of their best customers. Best fish and chips in the state. Fantastic oysters but sometimes the acoustics are tough.

Delicious and authentic, La Masseria is modern Italian cuisine. The menu reflects the current trends in Italian cooking. Everything is fresh and thoughtfully executed. The staff is attentive and its location on Main Street in East Greenwich is ideal for people wanting a vibrant setting. The ambience is both upscale and rustic. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended.

(This is a franchise, and my recommendation is for the Waterfront Chelo's on the border of Warwick and East Greenwich.) In my opinion, it is like TGIF as far as the food is concerned. But if you are looking for a lively family friendly fun restaurant waterfront restaurant, I recommend it. In the summertime there is live music and you can see many boats in the marina.

This Providence landmark restaurant has an elegant atmosphere overlooking the Providence River in downtown Providence. Although more open and less intimate than some restaurants, I actually like that they have more room. They have fish from all over the world and an excellent raw bar. The fixed price menu was a great bargain too.

For Premier, 5-star dining COAST is a must! For special occasions, this restaurant, located at the ultra posh Ocean House in Westerly is unparalleled. I recommend this restaurant for birthday's, anniversaries and celebrations. Be sure to call ahead and let them know what you are celebrating and they will make your dining experience unforgettable. Also stunning ocean views from the dining room, so arrange your dinner while before sun sets completely, although the moon on the water is also very romantic.

My Favorite Beaches

Rhode Island is called the Ocean State because even though we are the smallest state in the union, we have over 400 miles of coastline! Although many of our beaches are rocky, like the one directly below your suite, there are also many sandy beaches. Beaches close to the inn tend to me more for sunbathing because the we are farther inland. The best beaches are worth the drive. I have ordered beaches here by proximity to the inn. The pandemic lowered the visiting capacity. Visit visitrhodeisland.com and select beaches for update beach information
This is the closest neighborhood beach (1.4mi) reached by making a left at the first stop sign (Bellman ave). Follow the houses by the water (Bellman eventually turns to Shawomet). When Shawomet ends make a right, then immediate left. You will see the entrance for parking. Usually people fish to the left of the point, and swim and sunbath to the right of point. Great views of Conimicut Lighthouse. One of ten working lighthouses in the state. Also by looking to the left, on a clear day you can see Providence, Rhode Island.

Warwick City Park ( which contains Buttonwood beach) is somewhat hidden within this park. Located about ten minutes fro the inn, it offers paved trails, with the left side for walkers/runners, the right side for bicyclists. The main loop is about 3 miles. In the fall, winter and spring you can see the water from most of the walking path. In summer leaves may obstruct some views. There is also a small beach with beautiful views. You can park directly there, or if you park at the beginning of the path, the beach is around the 1 mile mark. When you are walking and you come to the road crossing, make a left and you will see the parking for the beach.

This is my favorite and most visited beach in Rhode Island because I do not like crowds and don’t mind the drive (close to an hour). East Beach is nearly three miles long, and the parking lot for the best part of the beach only holds fifty or so cars. The result is beautiful long stretches of beach, the further you walk away from the parking lot. So even during the busiest of the summer season you can feel like you are at some Caribbean Island. There are a few caveats though. Because the parking for this beach is limited, it is best to go in the afternoon. I recommend arriving after 3 pm because that is when early beach goers have started to leave. If you arrive before then, you may have to wait until other cars leave. Also if you wait until 4 pm, you avoid paying for parking which is expensive for both in state and out of state vehicles.

It is basically the opposite of East Beach. Although crowded it is relatively close and has super convenient parking and facilities. Scarborough takes a little over a half an hour to reach (if the summer crowds aren't too bad). And has good bathrooms, shower facilities, and food. Parking is plentiful albeit expensive if you arrive and pay for a full day.

It is further than Scarborough beach. Matunuck has decent facilities, not as extensive as Scarborough which is also true for the parking. Sometimes there is red algae or tide on Matunuck so that is why I prefer the East Beach or Scarborough. However if you are down this way, Matunuck Oyster Bar has the best seafood (and biggest lines resulting) in the state.

This beach is more for people watching and less for swimming in my opinion. It has the roughest surf in the state so many of the surfers call this beach home. However there is a nice sidewalk along the water. Visit Hazard Rock on Hazard avenue (follow the dirt path to the water) to see stunning views of the ocean from rocks. Also the top of the Coast guard house is great for taking in views and enjoying

One of America's grandest mansions when completed in 1788, the house at 52 Power Street was home first to John Brown, a businessman, patriot, politician, China Trade pioneer and slave trader who participated in the debates and practices that shaped the new nation and the world. However, this is more than an eighteenth century mansion. It was the home of John Brown's daughters and their families; the winter residence of the elegant Gammell family during the second half of the nineteenth century; the formidable mansion of Providence utility, real estate and trolley mogul, Marsden Perry in the early twentieth century. Today this magnificent and elegant building serves as a place in which the public can learn about these men and women who helped to create Rhode Island's capital city. Group, school, and special tours are available by appointment. Please call 401 273-7507 x60 for scheduling.
