Area Shopping Guide

There are a lot of great stores in the area, many with beautiful hand-crafted items that would make perfect gifts or gifts-to-self! I'm listing just a few of my usual haunts, but please do let us know of your discoveries!
What a beautiful bookstore. Buy something here--help keep this endangered species (bookstores) alive! Then treat yourself to an amazing pastry and coffee at the attached bakery.

Volunteer-run thrift store--or, more like a thrift BUILDING. Beautifully organized with tons of great stuff. Jewelry, clothing, antiques, linens, furniture...I could (and often do) spend an hour or more in here. Dirt cheap, too.

You've never seen a second-hand bookstore like this. It feels like you're walking into the National Archives: quiet and hallowed. There are sitting areas overlooking a beautiful pond and enough books, most in very good or nearly-new shape, to keep you busy for a good hour or more.

I love Renys. It is an old-fashioned, very reasonably priced department store, the kind I've dubbed "Armageddon" stores: go here if you only have time for one stop before the storm. Two floors of everything you could possibly need and a lot of things you don't need but might want.
