Hiking
Himakånå is situated in Nedstrand in Tysvær, the neighboring commune of Haugesund. From the apartment at Hansastø, it is about a 50 minute drive inland. The view from Himakånå is breathtaking and definitely worth a visit. The hike is relatively steep, but it's possible to do in 1,5-2 hours, and takes you through some wonderful and typically Norwegian scenery.

The view from Himakånå is breathtaking and definitely worth a visit. The hike is relatively steep, but it's possible to do in 1,5-2 hours, and takes you through some wonderful and typically Norwegian scenery.
Steinsfjellet is the best way of getting an overview of Haugesund, Karmøy and the North Sea in the west. It's possible to go up to the viewpoint by car, or by walking/ running (if you're the sporty one). It is located about 6.4 km away from the apartment in Hansastø (10 minute drive by car). Go there by night to watch the sunset. If you're up for it, Steinsfjellet is also very well connected with hiking trails to nearby mountains, such as Såt above Førresfjorden. The trails are easy to follow, and possible to do for people of all shapes and sizes.

Visit the place where Vikings ruled and see how everyday life was in the ages of the Vikings. Several buildings have been erected to show how the vikings lived, on the beautiful little island of Bukkøy in the middle of Karmsundet. Just a 10 minute drive from the apartment, park by Avaldsnes kirke, a medieval church, and make your final way by walking down to the viking village. Take in the atmosphere and enjoy the surroundings. I can also recommend a visit to the wonderful museum (Nordvegen Historiesenter).
