Up and over the hill from Lake Tahoe’s north shore, Truckee offers an easy base for an adventure-filled trip. Historically a logging town, Truckee was also the site for major railroad construction in the 1860s. Today, its Old West-style downtown has morphed into an artistic hub, with historical sites and appealing boutiques and galleries. This creative culture earned Truckee the designation of a California Cultural District in 2017.

Tahoe City is one of the prettiest places you'll ever see, and not just in Lake Tahoe. Yea, we're biased, but it's simply true. From every vantage point, 360 degrees, it's beauty. And that even includes the town center with shops, restaurants and hotels. On summer days, the street is lined with flower baskets at giraffe-head height with color spilling out toward you. To one side you look and see the shimmering Lake Tahoe, to the other the mountains. Across the street you see shops, including an art gallery full of kind of mind-blowing photographs of the area's beauty. Across the street, there's an historic house, classic log cabin style.

And that even includes the town center with shops, restaurants and hotels. On summer days, the street is lined with flower baskets at giraffe-head height with color spilling out toward you. To one side you look and see the shimmering Lake Tahoe, to the other the mountains. Across the street you see shops, including an art gallery full of kind of mind-blowing photographs of the area's beauty. Across the street, there's an historic house, classic log cabin style.

You can see Lake Tahoe from most places in town, and because of the easy access to this watery centerpiece and all its fun activities, summer is the time that shines in this small California town. On any given hot day, the beach at Kings Beach shows why it is king, with visitors and locals alike spreading out towels along the shore and diving into the cool, crystal clear waters of Lake Tahoe. There are numerous places where you can rent kayaks and paddleboards. Or if you want a little more action, venture off on one of the many hiking trails on foot or via bike. It’s wall to wall and tons of fun, especially with special events that happen here such as the July 3rd Fireworks and Beach Party. Seeing those bright, sparkling colors explode across the lake is a sight to behold, for sure. Most of the Kings Beach things to do center around this relationship to the lake, but golf is also a draw as is attention to wellness. Winter activities are plentiful too.

The park boasts a group barbecue area that can accommodate up to 75 people and an amphitheater that will seat another 65. Each of these areas and other outdoor venues are available to rent through the Tahoe City Public Utility District.
In the summer, Commons Beach is the home of FREE Concerts at Commons every Sunday afternoon and FREE Movies on the Beach every Wednesday night. A great family spot.
