National Museum of Ethiopia
The National Museum of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa offers a comprehensive overview of the country's natural, political and art histories. Visitors can easily spend a full morning or afternoon here soaking in the "edu-tainment." A cast of the bones of the Australopithecus afarensis Lucy are here of course, but so is the throne of Emperor Haile Selassie, traditional tools and textiles, and displays about Ethiopia's different tribes. It's worth it to engage one of the Museum's guides on a tour.

Ahh, if only all the cafes were like this! Coffee is a serious business at this great high-stooled Italian cafe (around since 1953) in Piazza. The beans are roasted on-site (you can literally smell them from a block away)…
Yod Abyssinia
Yes, it's touristy, but they sure put on a show at Yod Abyssinia. The large dining area is crammed with low wooden stools that all face a stage; at around 7.30 pm, musicians, dancers, and singers perform traditional acts from around Ethiopia. The food, too, is some of the best traditional food and it's a good place to try tej (honey wine).
