If I had to list my ten favourite hotels, Peponi's would come somewhere near the top. The name means "where the wind blows", and its position on the shore, between the sand-hills and the sea, is designed to catch every last whisper of the monsoon breezes. The stone steps outside lead passed a terrace where black snouts of ancient cannons still point across the water and down to the beach.

Sightseeing
Now given a complete makeover it is Manda Bay, and offers seriously good seafood along with all kinds of water sports, from big game fishing to snorkelling in the pellucid waters off Manda Toto. It’s also the only place where people are known to play croquet on the beach at low tide.
