Historic Ball-Paylore House - Tucson AZ

Ball-Paylore House

Ball-Paylore House was designed by architect Arthur T. Brown, FAIA in 1952 for University of Arizona librarians Phyllis Ball and Patricia Paylore. The small 1203 sq. ft. site-specific hexagonal-shaped house embraced the trends of American modernism, utilizing a south-facing wall of glass built with movable sun shades to create an early passive solar system. ☀️ Available for private tours by appointment and short-term rentals, Ball-Paylore House offers an authentic immersive experience with its exceptionally significant and unique design and intact 1950s original features.Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation purchased Ball-Paylore House in late 2019. 🌈 Ball-Paylore House is located in the mid-town Tucson of Historic Catalina Vista Neighborhood, which is rich with ranch homes, large lots, iconic palms and all things mid-century modern. Established in the 1940s, Catalina Vista is well situated – and within a stone’s throw to University of Arizona, Arizona Inn, Banner Hospital, Modern Streetcar Line and many shops + restaurants. Take a walk and enjoy its parks and friendly streets. Many visitors are surprised at the lack of nighttime streetlights, unaware that Tucson has a Dark Sky designation- which limits artificial light pollution to aid visibility to the many observatories located in the Desert Southwest. In a moment’s blink - you can bike, bus, street car or drive to Downtown Tucson, Historic Fourth Avenue, Mercado District and Five Points for shopping, eats, drinks and museums / galleries. And don’t miss the Sunshine Mile – Tucson’s original mid-century modern retail strip with its wonderful architecture, local businesses and home to Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation / Hirsh’s Shoes Bldg. 🌮 Historic Catalina Vista is bordered by East Elm (south), North Campbell (west), North Tucson Blvd (east) and East Grant Road (north). A short jaunt to the south is the Blenman-Elm neighborhood, offering the Arizona Inn and wonderful bungalow lined streets to enjoy your walk.🕺🏻💃🏽🦉 The otherworldly wilds of the Sonoran Desert is not to be missed! Saguaro National Park West is about a half –hour’s drive from Ball-Paylore House. Along the way, you might encounter barrel cactus, lizards, prickly pear, cholla, ocotillo, javelina, mesquite trees, coyotes, rattlesnakes and beautiful sunsets! Tucson is a nature-lover’s paradise! 🌞🌵🌈🦂
