My favourite cakes in Edinburgh and very good coffee.
Also snacks and breakfasts are great, it is all home made by Alex, the owner. He is a really nice and humble man, we've become friends over 2 years I've known this place for.

Medium expensive. You could spend £50 for 2 people there for tapas and main course, maybe with a beverage. Can go up to £80-£100 if you're a hearty eater and take a whole bottle of wine.
Open 5-11 pm, weekends 12.30-11 pm. Last food orders 10 pm.

Plenty of Middle Eastern, Indian and Asian cuisine around this place, close to the uni. It's very international in here, I definitely like this area for its diversity.

French & Caribbean cuisine. Mario (from Guadeloupe, owner and chef) and Bumba (from Angola, owner, manager and waitress) are a great couple who serve one of the best food experiences I've ever had.
I usually like to add heaps of salt to my meals, but Mario's artwork of using herbs makes the dishes too tasty to do this.
On 1st Sunday of every month they organise an all you can eat buffet, but you would need to book in advance, since there are usually many people interested in this event. They carry out byob (buy your own booze) policy.
It's a bit farther from the city centre, but still a walking distance from my flat (about 25 min). This however has an impact on a decent price you can eat for.
I just checked on TripAdvisor, and I must comment: among hundreds of more cosy and/or posh places it has reached #23 restaurant in Edinburgh. It's food and service, I tell you :).

Picturesque location at the Water of Leith, surrounded by green areas. From here you can take a walk on the Water of Leith Walkway via Dean Gardens and go to the Royal Botanic Garden - or vice versa - that's an excellent idea of a full day in Edinburgh.
A bus service operates between this gallery, Gallery of Modern Art and Portrait Gallery (drop off only). £1 voluntary donation is requested.

This is the bar adjacent to Summerhall Gallery.
One of my 3 local bars (another one is in the cellar - different name, same ownership).
Sometimes it gets stuffy, but it's comfortable and cosy here, and they have nice beers, including German Weihenstephan.

I have decided with my recent guest, that to hike Blackford Hill is much better than Arthur's Seat. If you want to escape the tourist rush and want to sit on green grass with spectacular views far miles ahead (weather permitting), this is the place to go! Definitely for nature lovers, great place to hike, also to walk to the adjacent Braid Hill.

If you want to escape the tourist rush and want to sit on green grass with spectacular views far miles ahead (weather permitting), this is the place to go! Definitely for nature lovers, great place to hike, also to walk to the adjacent Braid Hill.
