A must-see in Vancouver. If I only had one day in Vancouver, I'd visit Stanley Park and run, bike or walk around the Seawall for sure. It's breathtaking and a truly iconic Vancouver experience.

This is a park for urban dwellers and is frequented by Gastown locals. Stop by for unique views of the city, North Shore, the port authority and the large off-leash dog section. There's nothing quite like it in the city. At its peak in the summer. Great for a picnic too.

Within my top thing to do in Vancouver. Whether you bike, run or walk its length, you'll be amazed with the beautiful views of the North Shore, Ocean, Bridges and Mountains. Not to miss.

This garden is the first of its kind to be created outside of China. It is a stunning representation of the Ming Dynasty-era tradition classical Chinese garden. It has been named the No. 1 City Garden in the world & featured in National Geographic's book "Secret Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 of the World’s Best Hidden Travel Gems." While there is a FEE to gain access to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese GARDEN you can visit the Sun Yat-Sen PARK (which is adjacent and shares the same pond) FREE of charge. The lesser-known public park entrance runs along Columbia St. It's a great "secret spot" to enjoy a picnic on a sunny day.

Vancouverites call this mother nature's stair master and it's easy to undestand why. It's a 2.9km staircase of a hike with no flat sections! May be open or closed depending on snow/ice conditions + daylight hours. Starts at 300 metres elevation and climbs to 1,100 metrer at the top. Great to try at least once, granted you are physically able and have the right gear. Length varies but generally 2-2.5 hours if you take the Skyride down instead of walking the BCMC Route. Check for closures + conditions here - http://www.metrovancouver.org/services/parks/parks-greenways-reserves/grouse-grind

Hike to Quarry Rock in Deep Cove. This is a very popular and easy 2 hour 3.8 km day hike in North Vancouver that’s open year-round (although best tackled on a clear day). The hike starts along the Baden-Powell trail and concludes with a breathtaking view of the Indian Arm. Bonus – Deep Cove Village is fun to explore afterwards with a coffee and doughnut from Honey’s Cafe. NOTE – even though it’s rated "easy" you’ll still need the proper gear since there’s climbing and the trail can be very rooty. Learn more about the hike and get transportation directions here - https://www.vancouvertrails.com/trails/quarry-rock/

The Chief (aka Howe Sound Stawamus Chief) is open from May 15 - October 12 and is considered advanced. Located in Squamish (about an hour drive away from Vancouver) it is one of the most classic hikes in the Sea to Sky Corridor. Fact: the massive cliff face is one of North America's largest granite monoliths. It takes on average 3-6 Hours and although it's considered an 'intermediate' hike, it's straight up most of the way so most find it difficult. There are, on First and Second Peak, ladders for some of the more technical parts of the trail. Just caution that when it’s wet, the rock is slippery so be mindful of that, there are drop offs that fall hundreds of feet. Check conditions first!

The Lions, which are the two most familiar peaks seen from the city of Vancouver, are open July-September. This hike is considered advanced. The Binkert Trail (leading up from Lions Bay) is one of the most popular in the Lower Mainland. Hiking to the ridge from Lions Bay takes approximately four hours and gains 1,280 m (4,199 ft) in elevation. Hikers usually stop there as both the East and West Lion peaks require rock climbing equipment and expertise. But the view is spectacular, offering a panoramic glimpse of Howe Sound and the Capilano Watershed down to the city.

Cuchillo, pronounced (ku-chi-yo), is a very popular fushion Latin restaurant serving entrees, tapas and beautiful cocktails. Menu standouts include the Angus Steak Bavette and Local Pork Belly Confit (which they always serve last because it's sweet). Happy hour is from 5-6pm and again 9pm-close! They have tequila flights if that's your kind of thing.

One of the best coffee spots in Gastown. They have a better pastry selection than Revolver Coffee and often have more spots available for conversing. Great quality coffee beans they roast in house. Great selection of Italian food in Gastown, wonderful atmosphere, drink menu and service. Perfect for a date night - especially if it's cold and rainy since you don't have to travel far. The 'cafe' which is situated on one half of the restaurant is also quite good. Stop by for Happy Hour (or 'Bacaro') from 3-6pm for cheap wine and small plates you order by notepad.

Fresh hand made pasta. It's tiny so it can be tricky to get a seat but they have an incredible home-made, gluten-free bolognese pasta that is available on both the brunch (Saturday + Sunday only), lunch (Tues-Friday) and dinner menu (Tues-Sunday). The other menu options are great as well!

Meat & Bread is a cheaper lunch option in Gastown serving meat-focused sandwiches. The Porchetta was my absolute favourite before I began a vegan. I MISS IT! It's very popular with professionals in the area so expect to have to wait in line during peak lunch hours during the week. Open Sundays 11am-4pm. Otherwise, open 11am-5pm.

Although not situated close to the apartment but in the Coal Harbour Neighbourhood - this restaurant is worth the trip. It's a beautiful French bistro serving fresh West Coast ingredients located on a quiet residential street within the award winning Loden Hotel. A hidden gem. The Mushrooms on Toast is easily the most decadent and surprising brunch or dinner menu item you can order in the city. Great wine list. Good cheese plate. Amazing atmosphere. Pls note - they are only open for brunch on Sunday and only open for dinner Monday-Saturday.

One of the most beloved brunch destinations in the city. They do Mediterranean-inspired fine cuisine. They do not take reservations and you will have to wait-but for a good reason. Located in the "Library District" expect to walk about 20 mins or take a 5 minute cab ride from the apartment. Highly recommend the Milk Chocolate Lavender Belgian Waffles as a starter or as dessert. This restaurant in China Town was recently named the best restaurant in Canada by enRoute magazine. The food is Chinese-Italian and the decor is inspired by the 1960 jazz-era in Tokyo. My favourite taco place in the city. It's cheap. The crispy chicken burrito and the fish tacos are amazing. Takeout is fast if you want to order to-go in the front entrance section of the restaurant. Although technically not an island (more of a peninsula), Granville Island boasts many attractions - stop by the Granville Public Market (arguably Vancouver's liveliest market), play with toys in the Kid's Market, browse countless galleries and artist shops, purchase a Gelato at Granville Island Gelato & Coffee, or grab lunch at the Sandbar Seafood Restaurant. If you attend in the summer, ask for the Sandbar patio (one of the best patio ocean views in the city) and take in the Water-Taxi to your next destination! Tip - the Water Taxi only accepts cash fares or pre-paid passes you can buy on their website.
