For comfort, the cottage has air-conditioning & heating with master bedroom fitted with a ceiling fan. Welcome to Longforde, a very special, charming and beautifully furnished cottage attached to our main home but completely independent with your own access and landscaped to ensure your absolute privacy. Set on 4 acres of stunning gardens, each room has private rural views of the countryside and Tararua ranges. We are located at the end of one of Greytowns most beautiful streets, a walkable 2km into the shops and cafes. As well, we are on a popular walking and biking route to the Waiohine river.

Surrounded by Nature

The Tree House is a perfect, off-the-grid retreat for nature lovers, where you can listen to birdsong, see the sunrise from the deck and hear the river flowing in the valley. Two minutes walk and you come to The Watermill Bakery serving delicious pizza on Friday evenings, except during winter. The Tree House is close to a small productive lavender farm, Lavender magic, who sell cut flowers in season, and Mount Holdsworth, where you will be able to access a wide variety of walking tracks.

The View

On a plateau overlooking the Ruamahanga river valley is our cosy two bedroom fully self contained cottage. The views are jaw dropping, backdropped by the Tararua Ranges. On the river flats below, summer crops form a patchwork of different colours. Above, the big sky can be an endless blue or filled with rolling banks of cloud and truly spectacular sunsets. At night the wondrous canopy of stars is why the region is an official International Dark Sky Reserve. It’s all utterly peaceful.

Walnut Cottage, a rural idyll

Relax 10 minutes from town in a charming country cottage with all mod cons. Close enough to amenities to explore town but quiet enough to see and hear the tui's, kereru and Ruru (morepork owls) at night. There is a creek running through the bottom paddock for kids to splash in or explore for eels while you enjoy the sun on the patio. It is a great spot for a romantic getaway or a family break in the country. There are lots of walks around, animals to see and the tranquility is unbeatable.
