Very generous plates of Mexican food. I like their posole and chile rellenos, also, best margarita in town (lilikoi, prickly pear & other options). They make them just the way I do: strong, sour, with a li hing mui rim! and the price cannot be beat

Check in at the visitors center, ask all the questions you want, they have great interpreters from all over the world. Hiking trails (Kilauea Iki is a good one, not too long), also be sure to see Jaggar Museum at the roads' end, it's free and has good exhibits and you can often catch a ranger giving a talk. Great nighttime viewing of the lava lake in Halemaumau crater

The best Oceanarium on this side of the island, take a picnic, find some shade, spend a few hours, respect the lifeguard signs, but if it's calm you can discover hidden gems. Honu (sea turtles) swim here
