Among other things, the reserve is one of the most important Italian ornithological sites. Of particular interest are the boat tours with environmental guide organized by the Lipu. Lakeside in Torre del Lago (Viarerggio) is the "Teatro Puccini", where, every summer, takes place the Puccini Festival, the most important opera festival in Italy dedicated to the great composers.
