Mostar ,renovated Old Bridge Mostar, the largest city in Herzegovina, its economic, cultural and traffic center of BiH (Federation of BiH); 6 195 st. (2013; 75,865 pages, 1991). It lies on the banks of the Neretva, 132 km southwest of Sarajevo and 65 km northeast of Ploce. It originated in the transition area from the low Herzegovinian karst to the mountainous area, where the old trade route from the hinterland crossed the Neretva and continued towards the sea. The newer part of Mostar was built for the Austro-Hungarian authorities around a Turkish settlement built mainly on the left bank of the Neretva, where Karađozbegova from 1557 still stands out among numerous mosques. In addition to tobacco processing and viticulture (žilavka, blatina) and fruit growing (cherry, peach, etc.), non-ferrous metallurgy (aluminum), textiles, food (canning of fruits and vegetables), metal (steel structures, semi-developed axles, etc.) , electrical and wood industry, production of furniture, construction materials, horticulture; on the northwestern edge of the city, coal deposits were exploited from 1919 to the end of the XX. All Mostar is a cultural center with two universities (established in 1992 from the university founded in 1977), the Museum of Herzegovina, the Aleksa Šantić Memorial Museum and others. The International Trade Fair is held every year (since 1977). Located in the Neretva Valley, through which the railway and the Sarajevo-Ploče road pass, Mostar is also a significant traffic hub, complemented by an international airport. A unique architectural and urban ensemble, Mostar is a cultural center with two universities (founded in 1992 by the University founded in 1977), the Museum of Herzegovina, the Aleksa Šantić Memorial Museum, etc. The International Fair of Economy is held every year (since 1977). The Neretva Valley, through which the railway and the Sarajevo-Ploče road pass, Mostar is also a significant traffic hub, complemented by an international airport.

Although the town was first mentioned in written documents in 1444, it is assumed that it was built by the Bosnian king Tvrtko in 1383. In the coming period, in order to defend against the conquest of the Turks, the Hungarian-Croatian King Matthias Corvinus together with the local nobility established Počitelj. Great financial support was also given by the Republic of Dubrovnik, which, among other things, financed the construction of a bridge over the Neretva River.

The first written traces of this pleasant city for walking date back to 1382, and it is believed that it originated as a border town of the Hum state on an important road that connected Bosnia with Dubrovnik.
