The 200 acres transform into a shady sanctuary of tranquility during summertime. In particular, the Iris, Herbaceous, Sundial and Centenary Gardens bloom at this time of year. The gardens were created by Lionel de Rothschild in 1919 with herbaceous perennials and exotic flowers. The family are still involved today. There is a restaurant which is excellent but can be busy, It is lovely to take a picnic and eat out surrounded by unsurpassed beauty. The drive through the New Forest is an added bonus.

This is the second biggest natural harbour in the world. It is ideal for all kinds of sailing and water sports. You can rent canoes and windsurfers. It is a 30 minutes walk , along the beach. Why not take a bus to Poole quay. Then take an hour’s cruise around the islands.

Thee is a National Trust shop and tea house also. This is island where Baden Powel held the first Boy scout camp over 100 years ago. You can walk around the island. It has beautiful vistas of the harbour. See if you can spot the red squirrels, the deer and the peacocks.
