A great spot to feel like a local at the weekend. 5 min drive or catch the number 3 bus. Have breakfast at iconic Maranui Cafe or Spruce Goose Cafe and walk the flat beach. Don't let strong wind put you off, it just makes for better conditions to watch the kitesurfing and the airplane landings at the runway!

We walk here frequently at the weekend. Great when sunny but also great when the northerly is blowing as it is quite sheltered. (Steer clear in a southerly). An 1-2 hour walk to the beginning of the seal colony in the right season. Great views out to Cook Strait and the South Island.

We walk here frequently at the weekend. Great when sunny but also great when the northerly is blowing as it is quite sheltered. (Steer clear in a southerly). An 1-2 hour walk to the beginning of the seal colony in the right season. Great views out to Cook Strait and the South Island.
Lovely sheltered beach for swimming. Sheltered from most wind. Good cafe for food, coffee, and celebrity spotting when there are large films in production in Wellington.
