If you're looking for something that is a little more upscale, this place is a step up for lunch. Well-decorated Italian restaurant. A place that local attorneys and court staff often frequent during week day lunch breaks.

My personal favorite. Having grown up in Jacksonville, the ARK brings back memories. If you like your seafood deep-fried and dripping with grease (local style), the ARK is your place. I recommend shrimp and hush-puppies.

Despite its name, the Marina Cafe is actually a restaurant. Great seafood and burgers. A little more expensive than most options, but not too bad. Great view of the New River while you eat. Calm and subdued during the day, but gets a little louder at night once the alcohol starts flowing.

Parks & Nature

Probably the best beach in the county. Lots of tourists, but not as many as Emerald Isle or the others in that area. Free public parking within 100' or so of the beach.

Great place to take the kids. Too much to write about here, but look them up online. This one is a rare treat!

Arts & Culture

It's ok. About the only place you'll find much about the area. Among the exhibits is an original mantle that I donated to the museum when I remodeled the Ward House.

Essentials

Belgian-owned grocery store prevalent throughout the Southeast. Because they are Belgian, you can buy their store-label chocolate for a good price and it's actually Belgian chocolate! I recommend the dark chocolate with hazelnuts.
