Down Town
San José Down Town has its appeal. You can go to the Museums, to the Central Market, The Handcraft Market (The Only place where I recommend to buy groceries, because are nice and cheap). You can even go and taste some nice typical food.
In this place you can go get a nice meal, like the typical "Casado" or some cheese tortillas and "chorreadas". Very tasty and cheap, make sure to have cash in colones. I do not recommend to buy crafts here, because the Municipal Craft Market is cheaper and there more stuff to choose. Only remember colones cash (1 USD = 600 CRC).

San José Central Market
Avenida CentralIn this place you can go get a nice meal, like the typical "Casado" or some cheese tortillas and "chorreadas". Very tasty and cheap, make sure to have cash in colones. I do not recommend to buy crafts here, because the Municipal Craft Market is cheaper and there more stuff to choose. Only remember colones cash (1 USD = 600 CRC).
This is the only place I recommend to buy crafts and souvenirs, they have good price.

This is my favorite typical restaurant, ask for the breakfast menu, it is awesome. "Chorreada" (Sweet corn tortilla) with sour cream and cheese is mandatory, same as "Platano Maduro" (Ripe banana) with cheese.

If you like to walk, San José is safe between 6am and 6pm. And the Central Avenue is a good place to go.

In this place you can appreciate the art exhibition of Jiménez Deredia, until July 14th 2019. Besides, right next to this park you will find the National Museum and the Jade Museum.

It is actually Soda Tapia, this is nice, you can have a big typical breakfast with gallo pinto, eggs, plantain, bread, sour cream, coffee and juice for less than 10 bucks.
They also have other options like sandwiches and "arreglados" for breakfast.

The breakfast here is better but a little more expensive than Soda Tapia (around 12 bucks). The coffee included in the breakfast is quite good. It is very close from the condo, as well.

There are all kinds of restaurants around the neighborhood. Many options to choose from. Many of these are even available in Uber Eats or Glovo if you do not want to move from the apartment. Tico Burguesas is open 24/7.
