Sightseeing
Lissadell House, famous as the childhood home of Constance Markievicz, the first woman to be elected to both Dáil Eireann & the House of Commons at Westminster. The poet WB Yeats was a frequent visitor to Lissadell and drew inspiration from the house & its environs.
The lovely Alpine Gardens overlooking Sligo Bay are a suntrap, and are absolutely wonderful.
The guides in the house itself are mostly local and have many stories from the locality that enrich the tour experience.

Raghly Harbour (4km). Harbour constructed c.1840, designed by the engineer, Alexander Nimmo.
Remains a working harbour for local fishermen.

20km drive to the seaside village of Mullaghmore / Classiebawn Castle. Mullaghmore is a small fishing village, sandy beach here stretches as far as the eye can see and is ideal for swimming or windsurfing. Sea angling trips are available from here. You may like to take in the panoramic views of Sliabh Liag & Classiebawn Castle.

Dominican Friary Sligo (14km) Known locally as the Abbey, this abbey was founded in the mid - 13th century by Maurice Fitzgerald. contains a great wealth of carvings including Gothic and Renaissance tomb sculpture, well preserved cloister and the only sculptured 15th century high altar to survive in any Irish monastic church.
Our own children loved the tours here when they where younger and hearing about local history from the excellent guides.

Glencar waterfall, (20km) immortalized by the poetry of W.B. Yeats situated on the border of Sligo & Leitrim. The Devils chimney ‘Sruth in Aghaidh An Aird’ lies on the Sligo/Leitrim border in the Glencar valley, only a stone throw from Glencar waterfall. Listed on the World Waterfall database as Ireland’s Tallest Waterfall. Its name means stream against the height and reflects that during certain weather conditions (when the wind blows from the South) the waterfall is blown upward and back over the cliff from which it falls.

Atlantic sheepdogs Streedagh (9km) visit a farm where you can see some of the world’s smartest sheepdogs, working in their natural environment. Their owner has represented Ireland on an International stage on numerous occasions.

Found in the churchyard, his grave is marked with a simple headstone with the inscription, "cast a cold eye on life, on death, horseman, pass by." This was Yeats' self penned epitaph together with the instructions that the grave consist of "no marble, no conventional phrase
