Located next to the Grand Palace in the heart of Madrid the Cathedral has an interesting history. Built in fits and starts over 100 years, you don't get a sense of dislocation or disorganization inside the space. What you'll find here is calm and meditative despite its obvious attraction to the tourists. There are boxes for donations throughout the church, but there is no actual fee to visit, pray, or simply tour the history here. Be sure to make the stop when in the area, you won't regret it.
