For those with dogs, the Galloping Goose Trail is a great off-leash area to walk your dog, about 0.8km to the left is a bench overlooking Sooke Basin that is very tranquil -- I walk Jaxe, our RR, there every day. Incidentally our property is fenced in so no worries about escaping (unless they are very small dogs -- check to see if they could get through or under the front gate you entered).
