Home to the iconic Dartmoor prison, this village is in the middle of Dartmoor. Visit the Dartmoor Prison museum, grab a coffee from a cafe and your necessities from the local shop. Visit the Two Bridges Hotel for food & drinks, the home of 'The Hairy Hand'. After go on a circular walk to Wistmans Woods, allow 2hours for this and wear comfortable walking shoes. 35minutes drive.

Home to the iconic Dartmoor prison, this village is in the middle of Dartmoor. Visit the Dartmoor Prison museum, grab a coffee from a cafe and your necessities from the local shop. Visit the Two Bridges Hotel for food & drinks, the home of 'The Hairy Hand'. After go on a circular walk to Wistmans Woods, allow 2hours for this and wear comfortable walking shoes. 35minutes drive.

This village is home to a few cafes and shops, and is best known for its village fair and its church known as 'The cathedral on the moor'. One of my favourite places to visit, as it feels as if you have gone back in time walking around.

Smaller bike parks for the younger ones, sandpits and natural play equipment around the park, there's something for everyone. Free to enter, cafe on site to grab a coffee and walk. Dog friendly & there's an option to hire Segways and bikes. I would highly recommend for any young family looking to spend the day outside. Go Ape is an added cost, but is well worth it, and caters for young children up to adults. The perfect family time event. 20minutes via car.

If you have a national trust membership, then access to this place is free! Lovely walks around the garden, dog friendly (except inside the castle), cafe, trails and a castle to explore. 25minutes via car, and right next to Fingle Bridge. Make a day of it.

Beautiful views, streams to play in, explore the woodlands and see the Dartmoor Ponies . Dog friendly, toilets and picnic areas. Tranquil, one of my favourite places to visit with the dogs and children. Please keep dogs under control when the ponies are present. 30 minutes drive from The Old Barn.
Only 1 mile down the road, is Steps Bridge. A lovely walk along the side of the river as well as a woodland to explore. Lovely views. Beautiful all year around.
