City/town information

Windermere is about half a mile (1 km) east of the lake. The town of Windermere does not touch the lake it has now grown together with the older lakeside town of Bowness-on-Windermere. There are two separate town centres, which means there is a wealth of shopping and restaurants and bars giving lots of choice. The area is very popular owing to its proximity to the lake and local scenery. Boats from the piers in Bowness sail around the lake, and there are opportunities to paddleboard or wild swim. There are many buses runing locally and on tours of the Lakes. The Hostel is only a few feet away from the tourist information centre, which has lots of ideas for local days out.
