You can get into the centre of London and all it has to offer by starting from Hadley Wood's overground train line which is a 2-minute drive from the house you'll be staying in or High Barnet tube station or Cockfosters tube station, both of which are a 5-minute drive away (subject to time of day/traffic conditions).

Neighbourhoods
Hadley Wood is a lovely, leafy, quiet, picturesque suburb that has a village feel. There are country walks all around - there's a gate into Covert Way Nature Reserve very close to where you'll stay and a 10-minute easy walk along a path through this leads down to Jack's Lake.

High Barnet is your closest stop for general shopping. There are numerous high street cafes and other food & drink venues as well as banks, pharmacies and other stores.
The Spires shopping centre is where you'll find a Waitrose for general grocery shopping.
High Barnet has a tube station too - it's the start (or end, depending on your point of view) of the Northern Line.
