Hudson, NY - the Brooklyn of the Catskills. It's just on the other side of the river and it's hip, cool, charming and offers some of the best boutique shopping and top rated restaurants, cafes and bakeries. If you're coming to the Catskills to unwind and get away from people, skip this, the rest of you should allocate some time to stroll through Warren Street (and adjacent streets). A 1950's drive-in in the Catskills? C'mon, it doesn't get any better than that! 80 foot screen, outdoor bar area, fantastic cocktails and mocktails, local snacks, gluten free options, real ice cream sandwiches, homemade cookies, do we need to keep going?
Season starts in May and runs through Columbus Day weekend. Screenings are Fridays & Saturdays, with Thursdays and Sundays usually added in the height of summer. Doors open at 7 p.m. and movies begin around dusk. Tickets are $8 pp, children under 5 are free. Dog friendly.

Olana State Historic Site is a must see. 250 acres of scenic land, beautiful views all around, hiking trails (great place to bring a pup), museum and just a magnificent park not to be missed. You can't help but get inspired about landscape design after visiting the arboretum. The plants are so beautiful and clearly labeled, there are fun walking trails and a labyrinth, a 'hidden' marsh and a little fairy garden. Lots of space for kids to run around and plenty for adults to discover.

Just 25 minutes away is a great getaway for a little hike, swim, and just pure nature fix. A few easy trails lead to the creek and the waterfall (.75 mi one way). It’s a beautiful spot that many different age groups would enjoy.

If you are into old houses and architecture, you might enjoy the home and the studio of painter Thomas Cole. Thomas Cole was the founder of the Hudson River School of American painting. Many beautiful paintings are on display and the house is set in a beautiful setting. A "museum" might not be something you had in mind coming to the Catskills but it's a very pleasant visit. Check out Catskill Chololate after for a snack/coffee (it's more than just chocolate)
