Neighbourhood

Lake Moogerah sits in the Fassifern Valley close to historic townships of Boonar, Kalbar, Aratula and Mt Alford. The lake feeds onto Reynold's Creek and supplies irrigation water to the local landowners. Lake Moogerah is a popular spot year round for water based activities - such a ski boats, jetskis and kayaks. Fishing is popular with the lake well stocked with a variety of fish including Mary River Cod, Bass and Silver Perch. (permits required). There are 3 lakes in the area - Lake Moogerah, Maroon and Wyaralong. (Dogs are allowed on leads at all lakes but not allowed in the water unfortunately). Swimming is allowed on Lake Moogerah in an enclosed area with access through the caravan park - as is the local public boat ramp access.

The Scenic Rim has just been awarded one of the top 10 destinations in the world by Lonely Planet ! Some accolade for sure. The Scenic Rim has scenery that is spectacular - mountains, valleys, lakes - such diverse landscapes. The volcanic mountain ranges wrap around the valley and the world heritage rainforests. There are 6 National Parks to explore with pristine rainforests. Outdoor adventures await for those on foot or even on a scenic drive on the well marked country roads and tourist routes. A favourite of ours is the Fall Route out past Croftby to Carrs Gap and Queen Mary Falls - a nice day trip to take ending in a beer at the pub in Killarney for the drive back . The area is rich with great food and wine. So many wineries to visit ! Impossible to do on 1 outing - you will just have to come back again... and again. It's so easy in the region to buy direct fresh from the producers and farm gate shops. Scenic Rim is home also to the boutique drinks industry with micro breweries and distilleries. Country pubs for casual dining and cold beers on tap are relaxed and welcoming. The Roadvale Pub, Dugandan Hotel Boonah, The Canungra Hotel, The Royal Hotel Harrisville, The Royal Hotel Kalbar, The Scenic Rim Brewery Mt Alford to name a few..( we are still sampling and adding to the list lol). Scenic Rim feasts on Eat Local Month in June 2023 - a month long celebration of food and drink in the area. Local Produce Markets are on somewhere in the Scenic Rim every weekend. Check out the listing in our tourist info pack. There is so much to see and do in the area - I could go on and list forever... instead get out and explore yourselves. You won't be disappointed. I never tire of the stunning scenery and ever changing landscapes.

The lovely local township of Kalbar has a number of gorgeous historic building dating back to the 1880's. Worth a visit with lots of photo opportunities. Aside from being the home of the annual Sunflower Festival in March. Drop in to Lovett's cafe for some homemade goodies. The Royal Hotel across the road is a top spot for a big hearty meal ( I challenge anyone to finish their plate !)- they also do takeaway meals too which is handy if you don't want to cook. Just along from the cafe is the best smokehouse - 2 m8's cafe is the home of long slow cooked American style bbq meats. Across the road is the Emporium - an ecclectic array of homewares, antiques and curios - they even serve coffee and tea out the back. Back up George street is the popular homewares store BMK Collectives - people come out on day trips just to visit this store on the weekends. Next door we have Nanny Lou's Lane - pop in and take a look at the every changing array of clothes. Kalbar offers a Bakehouse for fresh bread, Spar convenience store - open late and a fruit and veg store that offers a wide selection of local produce from within the region.

Wineries

This winery is very local to us. Which is handy as it one of our favourites ! Great wine tasting by knowledgeable staff at the cellar door. We're sure you wont leave empty handed. Magnificent views across the vineyards and lavender fields 💜 to the Scenic Rim mountain ranges. For that special occasion try the a la carte restaurant otherwise a casual glass of wine on the terrace is recommended. Check out the unique wedding venue too set amongst the breathtaking scenery.

Cass's Electic Boutique is now operating from Cass's property in Croftby. Visits by appointment only. Call Cass and say hi - her shop is a crafties heaven. She is a furniture artist who upcycles pieces and sells art supplies, provises DIY experiences and workshops, along with custom commisions. In fact the beautiful statement piece sideboard here at Moogie House was crafted by Cass. I recommend you pay Cass a visit or even book into one of Cass's workshops.
