HURD STATE PARK: Hiking and mountain biking trails take you to the Connecticut River or to a cliff overlooking the river. Don’t miss the “Split Rock” Entrance is 7.4 miles from the house.

He designed the unusual features, ike a system of mirrors that allowed him to keep an eye on the rest of the house (and any guests staying there) from the master bedroom, a specially designed system of doorknobs and locks, and a train that circles the castle grounds. There are 47 doors in the building, and no two are alike. The grounds are great for hiking with wonderful views of the CT River. Tours are available daily 5/28/22 - 9/5/22 - get tickets online ahead of your visit to avoid disappointment. After your visit, consider taking the Chester Hadlyme ferry back and forth across the CT River. The castle is 16 miles from the house.
