Located in the Southside, Alleia is home to probably the best ambiance of any restaurant in Chattanooga. Giant gas lanterns and candles set the mood in the dimly lit eatery. Alleia is known for its inventive Italian food (you will not see the more straightforward comfort food here).
Alleia’s short ribs are fall-off-the-bone-delicious! Their specials are usually great, too. For a more moderately priced treat, get their pizza. Make reservations.

Tony’s is located in the Bluff View Arts District (aptly named because it is on the bluff of the Tennessee River downtown) and is known for homemade breads and pastas. Before dinner you can stroll the Riverwalk or walk in the sculpture gardens.
Their homemade pasta and pesto cream sauce is delicious--I don’t think I have ordered anything else from there in years. Just down the street from Whiskey Thief, I would pop there for a before or after dinner drink.

If you are in the mood for a burger, this place will not disappoint. MSM is also surrounded by several of the most popular bars in town. They do not accept reservations, so call ahead on weekend nights.
Located in the Northshore (across the bridges from Downtown), this beer only and burger tavern is well-known all over Chattanooga. This area of town also has cute boutiques for shopping during the day.
I recommend all of their burgers and love their homemade mozzarella sticks and their fried pickles. The seating is first come, first served.

1203 Hixson PikeLocated in the Northshore (across the bridges from Downtown), this beer only and burger tavern is well-known all over Chattanooga. This area of town also has cute boutiques for shopping during the day.

The name says it all, Champy’s is all about fried chicken. Known for “fortys and fowl”, you can get a 40 oz beer (with a special koozie) and a platter of the best fried chicken around. This is not your place if you are looking to cut calories as almost everything is fried.
They also have surprisingly good tamales, but I always get the chicken--it’s too good! Make sure to get a side of their “sweet heat” sauce. Reservations are not accepted, but are usually not needed.
