The closest park to my Cottage and my dog’s favourite place to ‘stop and smell the roses!’

The Historic Queensland State Rose Garden is a gorgeous amble (650 metres from my Cottage) through every kind and colour of heritage rose. Hedges are topiaried and pathways are varied and wind you through this beauty.

A real must to visit. Every corner has something new.

Just a 22 minute walk (1.6kms) from Crochet Cottage.
For me, this is the most varied and beautifully set out park that I know of. Ancient tall trees give shade for picnics, while wide grass parkland is available for kids games. The garden beds are set out neatly and planted to perfection and it demonstrates the largest collection of topiary hedges and bushes I have ever seen. A great place to amble and explore. And don’t forget the Sensory Garden there too.

My favourite coffee spot that let’s me take my dog too.

Ortem is a quirky and great service cafe just 19 mins walk from my Cottage. Great breakfasts and coffee and atmosphere. With a view of the magnificent Toowoomba Railway Station architectural building. Another yummy cafe I often visit is ‘Burrow’, it’s on Bridge Street (2.6kms away). Again, a scrumptious menu!

My ‘local’ pub that has character and charm in its old woodwork, and nice food too!

A charming Irish Pub filled with original features and old world charm. And beer and a live band on Fri and Sat nights.
A classic Irish Pub with little nooks and quirky features, and just a fun place to meet and have a beer.

To spend some hours in the presence of beautiful art is a gift!

This is an award winning Art Gallery with surprisingly extensive collections. And the internal ceiling stained glass window detailing is divine.

Views all the way to the coast and a secret waterfall walk!

Just a 5.5 km drive from my Cottage is Picnic Point lookout, parklands, bushwalking around the mountain terraces, discover the secret waterfall and if you are keen and fit you could climb to the top of Tabletop Mountain. It’s our own little Santiago de Compostela 🤣, so be sure to bring a stone to add to the pile at the top like I did!

A beautifully maintained Japanese Garden for calm and connection just a 5 km drive away.

A surprise in the middle of suburbia… a magnificent Japanese Garden with walks, statues, sand-combing, little bridges and peace and quiet.
