Volk's Electric Railway is the oldest continuously running, electric railway in the World.
Situated on Brighton seafront, the Railway was constructed by inventor and son of a clockmaker, Magnus Volk, and first opened to the public in 1883. The route runs for one mile along Brighton seafront, with three stations where passengers can alight. Trains run frequently from March to October and for special events throughout the rest of the year.

There are plenty plenty of facilities on the beach. There’s a music hall for entertainment, skate park, volleyball and a plethora of restaurants and takeaways to suit all tastes and pockets. The quieter end of the beach is on the left of the Pier towards Brighton Marina.

The quieter end of the beach is on the left of the Pier towards Brighton Marina.
Brighton Aquarium was conceived and designed by Eugenius Birch, the architect responsible for the West Pier. Work began in 1869 and the aquarium opened in 1872 making us the oldest continually operating aquarium in the world!

It’s also the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat or a drink in one of our historic pubs. Lewes also boasts a working brewery situated in the heart of the town. If you are visiting on a Tuesday, you may be lucky enough to see the Harveys dray horses delivering the beer. If you are here in November, be sure to visit for the fireworks display and processions on November 5th. Take the 28 or 29 bus from York Place to visit Lewes or take the train from Brighton Station.

Devil’s Dyke, just five miles north of Brighton, offers stunning panoramas, a record breaking valley, a curious history and England’s most colourful habitat.
At nearly a mile long, the Dyke valley is the longest, deepest and widest 'dry valley' in the UK. Legend has it that the Devil dug this chasm to drown the parishioners of the Weald. On the other hand, scientists believe it was formed naturally just over 10,000 years ago in the last ice age.
With a little exploring the Dyke's story starts to reveal itself: The ramparts or walls of the Iron Age hill fort can be seen when you walk around the hill and the remains of the curious Victorian funfair can be found just a few minutes from the car park. Venture into the valley and you will discover a living carpet of flowers and a myriad of colourful insects.
When John Constable described the panorama from Devil’s Dyke as 'the grandest view in the world', he wasn’t wrong, but there is so much more to discover here than just a beautiful view.
Take the 77 bus from Brighton train station to Devil’s Dyke, do check with the driver for times of the last returning bus. There’s a pub near the bus stop, The Devil’s Dyke Inn, offering food and refreshments.
