Food Scene

Great coffee shop in the Arts District just a quick drive from our home. Their current special is a brown sugar latte, which is amazing. And, the strawberry croissant is my favorite pastry.

Poppy + Rose is located in Downtown LA and has an amazing country kitchen-inspired brunch. There is usually a wait to get inside, but definitely worth it! My favorite dish is their fried chicken & waffles, which are made with free-range Mary's chicken and a Belgian-style waffle. Their biscuits are baked from scratch every morning with real butter. Tip: They validate parking at The Flower Market indoor structure parking deck accessed off of Wall Street.

Gourmet “Farm-to-cone” ice creamery located in the Arts District. Creative flavors such as summer sweet corn with buttermilk, bone marrow, or apricot-hops. Great atmosphere and a fun spot for after dinner dessert.

An overall incredible experience at Bestia. Innovative, delicious, and transcendent Italian cuisine in an industrial-chic warehouse in the Arts District. Tip: This is a tough reservation to get and dinner is pricey. If you can't get a reservation, go right when the door opens for a spot at the bar.

Entertainment & Activities

If you're into vintage and bowling, Highland Park Bowl was recently renovated and the place is absolutely gorgeous! Established in 1927, Highland Park Bowl is the oldest bowling alley in Los Angeles and combines a vintage feel with stunning décor and modern upgrades. Highland Park Bowl has three separate bars serving food and drinks, eight lanes and live music. There is also a burlesque show on Friday evenings. Lanes can be reserved in advanced or in-person (be ready to hang out at the bar while you wait for your lane) and shoe rentals are available. My favorite drink on their menu is The Fifty Shades of Coconut.

Drinks & Nightlife

An oasis in the heart of Downtown LA, Broken Shaker, located on the Freehand Hotel's rooftop pool deck, offers an eclectic menu of handcrafted cocktails and small bites. The Broken Shaker recently opened and is one of coolest spots in DTLA. Hip crowd, great drinks and overall awesome vibe. My favorite drink is the Recusal Cup (california pimms shrub, vodka, lillet rouge, citrus, ginger ale). Enjoy!

Shopping

The Los Angeles Fashion District is located in Downtown Los Angeles. Thousands of fast-fashion wholesale vendors line the streets of the Los Angeles Fashion District with vendors stocking the most recent fashion trends, at greatly discounted prices. While many of the stores are dedicated to wholesale business, retail shopping is a major part of the Fashion District. General business hours are Monday – Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturdays are the busiest days. Sundays, only about 30% of the stores are open. Great place for shopping and to get gifts to take with you.
