A tiny village which can be seen from my house. Cicignano is round, a tall wall into which the houses are built on the inside and an inner circle of houses and church in the centre. A delight.

Villa d'Este in Tivoli, never ceases to amaze me. Water fountains everywhere as you walk through the gardens. Closed Mondays but flood lit weekend evenings in summer. 60 min drive.

Beautiful gardens created round the ruins of an ancient Roman town. Limited opening days but tours every 10 mins. 2 hour journey but combine with a visit to Sermoneta and it's amazing castle.

The restaurant is good (dine in the courtyard) but there is also a beautiful Roman church with wonderful Medieval frescos. Set in the country near the ruins of a Roman Forum and 10 mins drive.
