Some restaurant recommendations. For most of these do book in advance! 1) Bistro Roca (our favorite, nice “rustic” tapas style dining to upscale items) 2) Gideon’s Ridge (fabulous views and ambiance) 3).The Best Cellar (very nice, more formal set in a Bed and Breakfast) 4) Story Street Grill (Americana, with an Italian flavor) 5) Six Pence Pub (English pub .. drop in for a pint and some fish and chips) 6) The Speckled Trout (mountain Trout fare … ) 7) Blowing Rock Brewery (Its a brew pub, bison burger is to die for!) And the best best of all “The Gamekeeper”… a few miles outside BR, but worth it in so many ways, if budget is not an object and you want fabulous … go here. Here are some great trails very close to the cabin. Please make sure you know your fitness and health before embarking any of them as we can't judge what we think is easy or hard vs what you may think of it... but here is our best set!!! You can search these on the internet for more details and locations of trail heads. 1) Bass Lake in Blowing Rock ... 25 miles of carriage trails that start with an easy walk around the lake to longer more strenuous hikes. Don’t forget to do the loop past the Moses Cone Mansion (its a 5 mile loop, so be sure to read the signs at parking to plan your route). 2) Price Park Lake on the Blue Ridge Parkway - Great flat loop in the woods of single track hiking around Price Park Lake. 3) Boone Fork Parking Lot on the Blue Ridge Parkway - A short hike to a wonderful stream and bridge or continue on 3.5 miles of strenuous UP to the top of Grandfather mountain, then 3.5 miles down ... its guaranteed to give you a good sleep that night. 4) Rough Ridge Parking Lot on the Blue Ridge Parkway - This is the hike that all Appalachian State University Seniors do for a picture on the big overhanging rock. Its only 1.5 miles, but it is single track rough hiking up to the views and back. Hope this helps ... have fun ... be safe!
