Islington and Angel are some of London’s trendiest, most eclectic neighbourhoods, boasting a rich history and a strong sense of community. FOOD Foodies are spoilt for choice in Islington. On Holloway Road you'll find a lot of good places to eat from Italian, Greek, to Georgian. (At nr 60) "The barn" offers great English breakfast, delicious brunch, salads and snacks. Opposite, on nr 157, is "Zia Lucia", a great place for pizza and "Lamezia" (nr 165), a traditional Italian restaurant. There's also Malaysian food at "Sambal Shiok Laksa Bar" (nr 171). Then on Upper Street there are many good Turkish, Japanese, Brazilian, Mexican restaurants. For Spanish tapas try a Llerena at nr 167. At nr 287 you'll find my favourite Mediterranean restaurant in the area: "Ottolenghi", famous for its cookbooks and mouth watering window displays. On weekends, get there early for one of London’s tastiest brunches, or just take away a tasty salad, cakes and desserts. On a sunny and hot day try handmade ice cream from "Udderlicious" on nr 187, gelato at "Amorino" on nr 110 or frozen yogurt at "Pinkberry" on nr 38. On Sunday try hog roast at The Albion at 10 Thornhill road, which is best enjoyed in their leafy beer garden. On Camden passage you'll find other cafes like the "Breakfast club" on nr 31. Next to it is Paul A Young’s artisan chocolates. For street food head to Exmouth Market’s street food stalls. PUBS The Horatia on 98 Holloway road is a family friendly pub for a bite and to watch sports. The Duchess of Kent on 441 Liverpool road is another nearby pub with outdoor seating. SHOPPING Upper Street is lined with independent boutiques and quirky design stores. Like retro gadgets and toys from "After Noah". On Camden Passage, famous for vintage shops and antique markets, you can find anything from art deco gems to bespoke African waistcoats. BARS Islington’s buzzy night scene draws crowds from across the capital. Try cocktails at "Hoxley & Porter’s" which has Orient Express-styled dining carriages, on Upper street 153. Try "Laki Kane's" (nr 144) exotic and quirky drinks with DJ nights. Sip on award-winning cocktails at The Bar with No Name (69 Colebrooke Row) with live music on weekends. THEATRE Islington features 3 of London’s most exciting fringe theatres: The Almeida, Pleasance Theatre, and King’s Head Theatre Pub. At world-famous Sadler’s Wells, watch anything from ballet to flamenco to hip hop. FOR KIDS AND FAMILIES Islington hosts loads of family-friendly activities: Watch a puppet show at the Little Angel Theatre. Tour the Emirates Stadium, home to Arsenal F.C. Playgrounds and outdoor tennis courts in Highbury Fields. On a warm day, wander over to Freightliners city Farm on Sheringham Rd where you can meet chickens, lambs and other animals. When it’s sunny, you can’t beat a walk or cycle along Regent’s Canal. Or hop on a cruise via ZSL London Zoo to Little Venice.

Islington is one of London’s trendiest, most eclectic neighbourhoods, boasting a rich history and a strong sense of community. The area's posh-meets-street vibe is a magnet for creative types: locals have included George Orwell, Lily Allen and what seems like half the cast of popular soap EastEnders.
Within touching distance of the West End, yet retaining a vibrant neighbourhood feel, Islington is a smart choice to explore.
