Port Melbourne is great to spend some time going for a walk, chilling on a bbq next to the beach or just having a great pizza. Either during summer or winter, it's a great location.

Port Melbourne is only a short tram ride away. Wander along Southbank Promenade to Clarendon St, where the bridge is at the end of the casino, and jump on the 109 tram heading away from the city. Alternatively, you can board the 109 from anywhere in Collins St in the city. You can easily spend a day here, looking at the huge cruise liners that arrive at Station Pier, wander past this to the historic Princes Pier and the modern foreshore walk, or choose one of many cafes and restaurants here or in Bay St for lunch or dinner. Walk along the walking trails or hire a push bike and follow the beach in the other direction towards St Kilda, and admire the variety of old and new foreshore buildings as you go.
