The Castro
Yerel halktan ipuçları
The Castro District is synonymous with gay culture. Revelers often spill onto the sidewalks at numerous bars, like Twin Peaks Tavern, whose floor-to-ceiling windows were revolutionary when it opened in 1972. The lavish Castro Theatre and the GLBT Historic Museum are also found here, as are homey restaurants and adult shops.
This neighborhood is a thriving hub for the gay community, along with some attractive nightlife options.
My favorite breakfast places in the neighborhood are actually on Sanchez Street and within walking distance of the flat. At 18th and Sanchez you’ll find Le Marais Bakery…a great spot for coffee and pastries. At 16th and Sanchez is Kitchen Story. Kitchen Story is famous for their millionaire’s bacon and killer omelets. For quick eats, a block away from the flat is Saucy Asian and Kasa Indian Eatery. If you’d like more sit down type places for dinner, in the Castro, check out my favorite spot, Poesia. Also in the neighborhood are Santeria, Starbelly or Wooden Spoon. There are literally hundreds of places in the Castro, the Mission and Noe Valley neighborhoods. If you want to walk a few blocks, check out Novy in Noe Valley or Flour+Water, Souvla or Lazy Bear in the Mission.
